Nickelsville Ballard encampment site to open, 9am, Saturday, Nov. 21

The Nickelsville homeless encampment site is set to open this weekend at 2826 NW Market Street on Saturday, November 21st at 9:00 am.

Nickelsville is looking for volunteers at 9:00 am, Saturday November 21st to help get everything up and running. They are seeking “drivers, vehicles, food, and people for unskilled tasks.” Volunteers are also asked to bring hand tools such as; hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, mark them with your name so they do not get lost.

The site will house fewer than 50 residents and 5 tiny houses that were “donated by the Tulalip Tribe, Sawhorse Revolution, and YouthBuild.” Read more here from the Nickelsville Ballard site and how you can help.

Mayor Murray has declared homelessness as a state of emergency and said that “more than 40 people have died trying to live on the streets of Seattle this year.”

Jack Broom of the Seattle Times recently wrote an article about the opening of an encampment site in Interbay, as well as the soon to be open site in Ballard. You can read that article here.
