Fundraiser to benefit WestSide Baby in Ballard, Tues. Dec. 1

On Tuesday, December 1, local nonprofit WestSide Baby will have its annual JOY Drive with a fundraising event at Patxi’s Pizza in Ballard. Patxi’s Pizza will be donating 10% of their profit (including takeout, deliveries and happy hour) to the campaign.

What: Annual JOY drive with a fundraising event benefiting local nonprofit WestSide Baby
Where: Patxi’s Pizza (5323 Ballard Ave NW)
When: Tuesday, December 1, 11am-10pm

The JOY campaign is also encouraging the public to host drives, donate money or new or gently used items to supply families in need. They seek items such as diapers, warm clothing and other essential items.

Nancy Woodland, Executive Director of WestSide Baby says:

“There are 41,000 children aged 12 and under living below the federal poverty level in King County, and for those families the effects of poverty can be far reaching and potentially devastating to physical and mental health. Through our annual JOY donation drive WestSide Baby will provide more struggling families with critical items such as winter coats and boots and essential safety equipment, clothing up to size 12, diapers and hygiene items that aren’t covered by any government assistance programs.”

In the month of December, WestSide Baby anticipates serving 2300 children, providing them with essential items for their safety, and helping them to be warm and dry. These include “more than 70 car seats, 500 bags of clothing and 80,000 diapers.”

WestSide baby says that the drive you organize does not have to be complicated. They list the following suggestions on their website:

  • Organize a drive at your office or if you are a business owner why not offer a discount for customers who participate?
  • Get your kids involved by hosting a birthday party drive, or help them organize a drive among their friends, clubs, or athletic teams!
  • Have some fun and organize a holiday cocktail party or potluck with friends, all for a great cause.
  • Turn your company or church holiday tree into a “Giving Tree” by covering it with ornaments representing items desperately needed by local children. We can even make the ornaments for you with advance notice!
