Chippy’s Fish and Drink on Ballard Ave will serve its final meal this Sunday, February 14, after being open in the neighborhood since May 2014.

Ethan and Angela Stowell are closing the eatery and planning to reopen the space as Marine Hardware at Staple & Fancy.

The new eatery will open on Wednesday, March 2, and its quirky name comes from an existing painted sign from the early days of the Kolstrand building, similarly to Staple & Fancy’s name, which was uncovered during the construction process.

Marine Hardware will open Wednesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and offer an a la carte menu of more than 10 items. A tasting menu of four courses will be also available for $50/person, and six courses for $80/person.

Longtime chef at How to Cook a Wolf, Michael Gifford, will be heading up the kitchen. Chef Stowell also plans to be in the Marine Hardware kitchen too.

Gifford and I had a great time cooking together back at Union,” says chef Stowell. “I’m looking forward to working with him, and I’m really excited to get back in the kitchen – hopefully every week.”

Marine Hardware’s menu will feature a selection of items including rabbit loin with frisée and lardon salad and red wine dressing, smoked foie gras terrine with dried cherries, watercress, and brioche and seared Hamachi with steamed rice, ponzu, and seaweed to name a few.

In terms of drinks, the wine program will highlight the Old World with a special focus on the table wines of France, from the Gamay of Burgundy to Cabernet Franc of the Loire Valley. The bar program will focus on brown liquors with a small selection of rotating house cocktails, and there will be four local beers on tap with an additional selection of European and domestic beers by the bottle.

The 600-square-foot space will remain almost the same with minimal design updates including new plates, new glassware and subtle decor enhancements.
