sg

Tonight, Bal Mar (5449 Ballard Ave NW) will host Syttende Gay, a LGBTQ event that celebrates Ballard’s longstanding Norwegian heritage.

The event, which was first held in 2006, was created for the annual Syttende Mai (Seventeenth of May) Norwegian Constitution Day in Ballard.

This alternative event became known as Syttende Gay, which was a play on words of Syttende Mai and we are that alternavtive event for the LGBTQ guests as well as anyone who is supportive of the LGBTQ community.

“Although this particular event focuses on the LGBT side, our main focus is to also promote and celebrate Norwegian culture and the long standing tradition in Ballard for 127 years,” says event organizers.

This year’s event will welcome back Haffi Haff, a Seattle native and gay entertainer , vocalist and DJ who now performs in Iceland. Also returning is beloved Drag Artist Iona Trailer.

The event will also be raising funds for non-profit Diverse Harmony.

Cost of VIP entry to the event is $7, which includes exclusive access to upper VIP level with a panoramic view of the Syttende Mai parade and 10% off  Nordic inspired food and cocktails. The event will kick off at 4:30 p.m.
