Annual Grieg Gala brings Norwegian musicians to Ballard

This Sunday, June 18, is the Annual Grieg Gala, celebrating the 174th birthday of Edvard Hagerup Grieg, Bergen and Norway’s most beloved composer. The event will be a “Father’s Day extravaganza”, featuring Norwegian guest artists for the Jubilee program at the Ballard First Lutheran Church (2006 NW 65th St). The free concert will be from 3 to 5pm.

The concert will feature Bergen guest artists soprano Reidun Horvei and pianist Inger-Kristine Riber, joined by local talent Rachel Nesvig on the Hardanger fiddle, violinist Allion Salvador, and the Grieg Gala Festival String Quartet.

The Daughters of Norway Valkyrien Lodge will serve Norwegian food at the reception, with a chance to meet the artists.

The event is organized by the Seattle-Bergen Sister City Association, one of Seattle’s 21 sister cities.
