Happy 4th of July!

This 4th of July is a little different for Ballard: it’s also the 100th anniversary of the Ballard Locks opening.

To celebrate the centennial, there will be a special EA-18G Growler flyover just after 10am. The planes are part of the Electronic Attack Squadron 138, the Yellow Jackets, from the Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island. There will also be a special ceremony at the Locks to commemorate the anniversary, and the Seattle Civic Band will play a “rousing selection of patriotic music” at 2pm.

The annual Seafair Summer 4th will be happening all day at Gas Works Park, with the fireworks planned for 10:20 pm. During the day there will be “All-American Games” including pie-eating contests and sack races. They’ll have a 21+ beer garden, and live music from local musicians.

Enjoy the fireworks, and don’t forget to keep your pets indoors tonight!
