Robbery suspect arrested in Salmon Bay after barricading himself on a boat

Police have arrested a 35-year-old man after he assaulted and robbed a woman in Ballard. The man had barricaded himself in a boat in Salmon Bay when police arrived to arrest him.

According to Seattle Police, the suspect assaulted and stole a backpack from a 35-year-old woman at 5:30 am on Friday morning near 30th Ave NW and NW Market St. The woman, who knows the suspect, told officers where he lives on his boat, and police responded to the boat near 24th Ave NW and NW 54th St. Police say that when they approached the boat, a different man emerged, and told officers that the suspect was still on board. Police negotiators responded to the scene in an attempt to establish a dialogue with the suspect, and the SWAT team was on hand based on information from the victim about weapons the man may have had on board.

According to SPD, after several hours, the suspect emerged and was taken into custody. The man had a rifle and several BB guns on board. He was booked into jail for robbery.
