What’s on this weekend

Here are a few weekend events to keep you busy, including a  Sunday planting work party in the Salmon Bay Natural Area.

Friday, October 13:

  • BHS’s production of Metamorphoses: The show, a 10-act play based on Ovid’s 15-volume work of Greek transformation myths, takes place in and around a large pool of water custom built for this performance and debuts this Thursday (there is a splash zone!). Performances are October 12, 13 and 14 and next weekend, October 19 and 20.
  • Live Music:

    • Mountain Flowers, Leah T & The Baked Goods, and John Dillon at Conor Byrne Pub (5140 Ballard Ave NW) at 9pm $8.
    • Play My Birthday Present: Pop2K : Spinning Dance Party Hits from 2000-2010! at Tractor Tavern (5213 Ballard Ave NW) at 9pm. $10.
    • Jazz at Egan’s Ballard Jam House (1707 NW Market St) 7pm – Gary Negbaur’s “Jazz, Blues & Two Tattoos” – with Gary Negbaur (piano/vocals), Ryan Donnelly (bass) and Cutts Peaslee (drums) ($10 cover – free with Arts NW Badge) 9pm – PK/Skerik/Keplinger – Paul Kemmish, Skerik and Greg Keplinger ($10 cover)

Saturday, October 14:

  • Missing Link Self-guided public walking tour: 10am – 2pm. Meet on Shilshole Ave between 22nd Ave NW and 24th Ave NW.
  • C.C. Filson and Ebbets Collaboration Party, noon to 4pm. “Filson and Ebbets teamed up to produce an extensive collection that is only available at the Filson store in Ballard. We’ll be providing free hot dogs (provided by Dante’s), sodas, peanuts, and even beer.  The first 100 buyers of the new line will receive a limited edition tote.”
  • Live Music:
    • Smokey Brights, Fine Prince, Reptaliens at Sunset Tavern (5433 Ballard Ave NW), 9pm, $10.
    • The Crying Shame, Trash Dogs, and Dan Tedesco (video release party) at Conor Byrne Pub (5140 Ballard Ave NW) at 9pm, $8.
    • Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band w/ Jason Webley and The Mighty Dreadful at Tractor Tavern (5213 Ballard Ave NW) at 9pm. $15.
    • Jazz at Egan’s Ballard Jam House (1707 NW Market St). 7pm – Dina Blade – Cole Porter tribute backed by the Hans Brehmer Trio ($12 cover)9pm – VJ and His Autumn Crooners, with Victor Janusz (piano/vocals) and Medearis Dixon (sax), featuring singers Marilyn Deering, Arwen Dewey, Alejandro Acosta, KC Compton, Liz Latham and Dan Czaran. Sunday, October 15:

  • Leif Erikson Viking Dinner 5PM at Leif Erikson Hall (2245 NW 57th St). “Be a Viking, eat like a Viking at the hall named after the first Viking in Vinland, Leif Erikson! Traditional Viking stories, games, entertainment and skåls. Learn about the Viking culture, attire, seafaring, and more from Nathan Salmon. Tickets $25.
  • Salmon Bay Natural Area Planting Party, 9am to noon. “Please join us to fill in and expand the planting of low ground covers begun last spring. Thanks to Seattle Public Utility’s efforts, those plants survived the hot and dry summer. New plantings will complement those and have a good chance to get established over the fall, winter and spring. Bring water, work gloves and any favorite weeding and planting tools. We’ll provide some gloves and tools, safety vests and light refreshments. If we get enough volunteers, we may be able to do a sweep of our adjacent Adopt-a-Street section along NW 54th St. and the Burke Gilman Trail. Meet in the west end of The Canal parking lot, south of NW 54th at 34th Ave NW. “

  • Live Music:
    • Open mic at Conor Byrne Pub (5140 Ballard Ave NW) sign-ups at 7:30 pm.
    • Younger Shoulder, Jessica Dennison + Jones, and Kristin Allen-Zito at Sunset Tavern (5433 Ballard Ave NW), 8pm, $8.
