Thai Siam holding its 30th annual free Christmas dinner for the needy

For the last 30 years, Thai Siam has held a free Christmas dinner for people who are less fortunate, and this year is no different.

“My family and I are hosting a free holiday meals again this year on Christmas Day for those in need,” writes owner Ott Jaichalernsook in the My Ballard Facebook Group. “This is our family tradition going on for 30 years this year. If you know anyone that could use a festive holiday meal, please kindly pass on the words.”

This year’s meal will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Christmas Day at the restaurant at 8305 15th Ave. NW. With the help of a few dozen volunteers, the restaurant typically serves around a thousand turkey dinners.

During the summer, Thai Siam also holds a benefit dinner to raise money for charity.

  1. Truly a generous gift to the less fortunate among us. I first learned about this 10+ years ago when Bill, the guy who sells Real Change at the Ballard PO, was living on the streets. Not only do they serve a full Christmas dinners but they also make sure folks have lots to take away. An expression of others-centered giving and selfless generosity in the true spirit of this holiday season!

  2. We love to eat at Thai Siam because of the excellent food and service and the friendly family ambiance. Knowing they do this makes me appreciate them even more.
