Beaches reopen following last week’s wastewater overflow

Local beaches have reopened after closing for several days for water quality concerns.

Golden Gardens, Carkeek, Medina, and Richmond Beach closed last Wednesday due to wastewater overflows from West Point Treatment Plant and Richmond Beach pump station. Over 11 million gallons of sewage and stormwater poured into Puget Sound when both stations lost power from last Tuesday’s heavy winds.

According to King County, the beaches are now safe for use after water quality testing showed safe results.
