TWO SOLO EXHIBITS’ OPENING RECEPTION! Thursday, May 16th, 2019 6 PM – 9 PM
BallardWorks is excited to present artists Agnes Lee in “A Thousand Words” and Zuolie Deng in “Building on Traditions”. Please join us for the opening reception on Thursday, May 16, 2019, from 6:00 to 9:00PM at BallardWorks, 2856 NW Market Street. It is a unique opportunity to give the artists a warm welcome and discuss their works with them.
Chinese characters have the exquisite quality of being both words and pictures. The stroke of the characters conveys music, meaning and movement. With these versatile forms, Agnes Lee takes inspiration from poetry to express her feelings, memories, well-wishes, and prayers. “When I am moved by a poem, such as Gibran’s Prophet On Marriage (translated into Chinese), the story fills my heart; as I begin to paint, the characters become a meditation, a repetition of movement, the layers of time, music, emotion, words, brush marks, and color.”
Trained in Guangdong, China, Mr. Zuolie Deng merges traditional Chinese and Western aesthetics to create a sense of calm and respite in his paintings. He invites the viewer to take a pause from the busy and sometimes anxious world surrounding us. In his black and white works, Mr. Deng brings in depth and meaning through the use of nine different shades of black, while his color paintings submerge us in a complex world of patterns and movements.
Three floors of art studios and exhibition spaces open for the Art Walk during Ballard Night Out on Thursday, May 16th, 2019. Open 6:00-9:00 pm only.
