A FESTIVAL OF FAVORITES:
A COMMUNITY CHORAL CELEBRATION
(and bake sale!)

For seven years The Market Street Singers has presented community sing-alongs featuring favorite choral classics, familiar “chestnuts” that singers continue to love no matter how many times they sing them. The success of these “Festivals of Favorites” has led us to offer them as ongoing events, at various venues, including NW Folklife. There has recently been markedly increased interest in choral sing-alongs in the area and we are proud to be part of this exciting trend.

We provide the music, all you have to do is show up and enjoy the fun. This is not designed as a concert performance, but rather a community music making event. Whereas singers of all abilities are welcome, non-singers are welcome to show up to just enjoy listening to the music. And singers, YOU get to choose what music we do from a list of over 25 titles. Things like…

Billings “Africa” – Mozart “Ave Verum Corpus” – Biebl “Ave Maria” – Farrant “Call to Remembrance” – Billings “David’s Lamentation” – Farmer “Fair Phyllis” – Rutter “For the Beauty of the Earth” and “Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind” – Tallis “If Ye Love Me” – JS Bach “Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring” – Lassus “Jubilate Deo” – Morley “Now is the Month of Maying” and “April is in My Mistress’ Face” – Faure “Cantique de Jean Racine” – Vittoria “O Magnum Mysterium” and “O Vos Omnes” – Lauridsen “Sure on this Shining Night” – Palestrina “Sicut Cervus” – “Sumer is a cumin in” – Brahms “Waldesnacht” – Bennet “Weep O Mine Eyes” – Randall Thompson “The Road Not Taken” and “Alleluia” and “Choose Something Like a Star” – Jeffers “I Have Had Singing” – Joseph Martin “The Awakening”

A suggested participant donation of $15 will help cover expenses. We also invite you to enjoy our bake sale. As you know, everything goes better with cookies and brownies.

There is no need to reserve a space; in the unlikely event we run out of music scores, you may have to share with someone. But isn’t this a lovely way to make friends? We do, however, want to make sure we have enough chairs set up. If you plan to attend we request you notify director@marketstreetsingers.org or call 206-465-3296.
