Sunday, September 16, 5PM: Be a Viking, eat like a Viking, tell stories like a Viking at the hall named after the first Viking in Vinland, Leif Erikson! Who knows maybe there will be a prize for best Viking! Stories, games, entertainment and skåls! Eat and drink like a Viking including roasted pig (pork tenderloin) and roasted chicken; roasted root vegetables; variety of cheeses, nuts, and bread; plum crisp/cobbler with a modern treat of ice cream; mead, beer, and more! No potatoes yet and no forks which hadn’t been invented yet! Viking items will be offered at a silent auction ! Remember to bring your gold, silver, or check! This feast will be a celebration of the Voyage of Birka. Birka was on the island of Björko, a big center of the Vikings’ empire between the 8th and the 10th centuries. This city of about 700 people at its largest was the capital of kings and Viking chiefs. As it was on international trade routes it had variety and influences in its food of that time.
