Thanks, BallardrallaB. We're keeping them for now, at least for another month, until we are 100% certain of their gender. If they're female, they'll start laying eggs, if they're boys, their tail feathers will curl up, and of course, they won't lay any eggs.

There are some people up at 95th & 4th who have a big duck pond, maybe they could provide a good home?

LOL! Was loving everything about the ducks & had to go to your website. It wasn't until I got to the photo on the bottom and I recognized Brigie and Heidi did the quarter drop!

Say Hi to ducks, dogs and daughters!

Sadly, domestic ducks do not do well in the wild. Their flight abilities are very limited, and they make very easy pickings for predators.

For now, we have made the decision to keep them. We think we may have judged their gender too quickly, and that it would be good to keep them at least one more month to see if their tail feathers curl. We've gotten conflicting advice, and truly wish we had a duck expert handy to help us out, but in a month if they're girls, they'll lay eggs, and if they're boys, their tail feathers will curl, and then we'll know absolutely for certain. For updates, please go to http://www.ducksinseattle.com.

I am so intrigued, and would love to provide a home. But I am not sure I can provide a good enough home. Are they the kind of ducks who would do well in the wild? My parents live in the country on a lake that is more of a swamp. It's very bird friendly and I fret that you are having trouble finding good homes!

Yes, coyotes would be very happy to find fat little drakes in the stream. They must have a safe enclosure at night, and preferably a high fence surrounding them during the day as well.

I have a friend in Snohomish who owns an acre with a stream. He has bunnies, but they come and go. Would coyotes get the drakes?

Did I forget to mention that not only are they excellent company, curious and friendly, but they also fertilize as they go? C'mon, somebody must know someone on an acreage who would love to have a couple of ducky pets!

Or, should I say drakes. These are two beautiful Khaki Cambell drakes. We ordered 3 girls, but two of them turned out to be boys. For pictures and their whole story, please visit http://www.ducksinseattle.com.

Yes, we have takers who will gladly turn them into roast duck, but we're hoping to find someone who wants them as pets. They're quiet and friendly, they don't need a pond although they love to have water to splash in, even just a plastic container. They eat lots of grass and dandelions, leftovers from your garden, and forage for slugs and snails. At night, they eat a little grain, and spend the darkness hours totally silent in their raccoon-proof pen. They need very little housing, just somewhere to get out of the wind (they love rain), but their pen does need to be sturdy and fully enclosed. During the day they wander the fenced yard. They can fly for a few feet, about a foot off the ground.
