Sorry, my words and brain seem to be jumbled these days .... Got too terse, I think.

As in Tammy Wynette's song, kids do say the darndest things. My brother's daughter had observed her mother practicing saying "I want a divorce." The daughter then was observed by my brother, hands on hips, in front of the hallway mirror, repeating over and over what mom had said. Quite a shock when a couple of weeks later he heard it (for real) from his ex-to-be. He laughs heartily about it, now, almost 20 years later.

That's the first darndest thing that is said in the song by a kid.

I took my nephew and niece to the Seattle Are Museum when they were about 9 or 10 and two great ones came out of that trip.
1) my nephew, a bit exasperated "Signs are everywhere but they never explain it. Who IS this Sam guy?"
2) my niece, tired and pointing to a regular public bench in the modern section "Is that art or can I sit on it?"

Boat - scary!
Ballard, Hee. My favorite was always when they would look at me like I was dull when I questioned them on what they meant.

When my kid was two I pointed to a picture of an orca and asked "what kind of whale is that?"

"A teefin teefin whale."

"Why is it called that?"

[looks at me like I'm dull] "Because it has lots of teefins."

When my older daughter was about three, she looked at the glass of water my wife had and said wistfully, "And I sighed a great deep sigh. Oh, how I wished it was mine!"

My younger daughter had her 3-year-old moment of wisdom at Value Village. She and my wife were looking through shirts for me. She pulls one out and says, "Gween is a good color for Dad. <pause> Is that silk?" It was on both counts.

Oh, I've got many of these, but this is one of my favorites. Some years ago I was shopping for pants with my daughter in a nationally known clothing chain. She was going through one of those growth spurts where if the pants were long enough, they were miles too big in the waist and if the waist fit, they were floods. I was lamenting this fact in the dressing room. DD did not miss a beat as she said "Well maybe that's why they call it The Gap, Mom."

Not particularly funny, but my brother heard his 4 year old daughter with the first one from Tammy Wynette's Kids say the darndest things.

A few weeks later he heard it from the "source". Now almost 20 years on, he plays this song and laughs.

Hee, that's a good one.

I overheard this on the school grounds while picking up my boys:

Little boy explaining to another that the play field behind the school is big.

"The field is like 20 pounds! Like this wide!" with his arms stretched out.

AS. What a wonderful treasure that book must be. A very creative idea you had all those years ago!

Here is my favorite from a little girl I mentored:

Can I stay with you when my family goes to Germany?
Germany? Are you sure that's where they are going?
Yeeeees Germany
Germantown maybe?
Noooooo Germany
Are they going on a plane?
Noooo they will drive
I don't understand why everyone but you is going.
Cause I am too little but the baby will sleep.
Why are they going?
It's a music thing and they all love the music, even my sisters
This went on and on with her whining annoyance with my questions until her sister came to get her. When I asked her to clarify, she threw herself on the ground cackling away and screamed,
"We're going to see Journey!"

I have kept a small notebook in the kitchen for years and was so glad to have recorded some of my son's comments.

" Brian what are you doing with the water?"
"I'm watering a slug to see how big it grows when I water him- He's growing!!!"

On the way to the movies one day:
"Mommy, when I was in your tummy, was I a sperm or an egg?"

Live performance of the PNB Nutcracker when Clara gets kissed:
"Oh Yuck!!!"
Very loud
Thank goodness it was a matinee.

While eating a root beer float he prepared:
"I wish the ocean was rootbeer and boats were ice cream"

" Mom, you work harder than a Mexican"

And this year:
" it's not about what you can or cannot do- i's about what you should or should not do"

OK here's your chance parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents. Free reign to tell as many stories about cute things your kids have said as you want.

I'll start.
Was driving along in the rain with my foster boys and went through a puddle. The 4 year old's head popped up and he said with great concern and excitement "Auntie! Did you hear? The car stepped in something!"
