Thank everyone who posted advice, and thanks "b" for taking it off my hands. I did get some more bulk brown rice and it seems to cook ok in the cooker....weird. Maybe the bag of rice is different somehow, i just dunno....

love and peace to all.

seattletree,

Have you tried soaking the brown rice before cooking? If not, try soaking for two days (changing the water daily) before cooking.

Hope that helps...

Thanks Reba, I am sorry I wasn't here much yesterday, but one of our fellow Ballard Bloggers took it off my hands. Thanks B. And thanks Reba. My son, 9, is very relieved, I think he felt as if I wouldn't give up on it....he really likes a bowl of sticky rice with butter and cinnamon.

hi, ya know we tried that too, i think it just takes a bit, maybe quite a bit? longer to cook than this old, like vintage, rice cooker is set for. it has no timer, just cook, so no adjustment. even tried adding extra water, cooking it twice, you get the pic? ha ha. but thanks. i use rice in cabbage rolls but it would take forever to use 5 pounds...

Hello, 'tree!
Why not mix brown with white? You can start with very little brown so that it's barely visible and eventualy up it to half and half.

I cringe to waste food, particularly during these trying times. I cannot give it to the food bank, while brand new, it is in fact opened. I very recently bought a 5 lb. bag of NIKO NIKO Premium Medium Grain Brown Rice. Trying to eat healthier. However, the family says "thumbs down". After trying 2 times to get it to work in my old old rice cooker, it is just "too chewy" mom.....ok, I give up for the moment...so would anyone like to have a bunch of brown rice, I swear it's good stuff, in the original bag and then placed into a gallon ziplock. Drop me a note at ethington@q.com, so I don't have to waste food. Please. Thanks.
