What's everyone doing tomorrow in Ballardland to celebrate their mothers? Or being celebrated as mothers?

I get to spend the entire day with my darling daughter! Breakfast, shopping, Sunday Market, maybe some ice cream at Little Coney...hope the weather cooperates!

Depends on the weather - if decent, the zoo, if not so decent, EMP.

Of course we start the day at the Farmer's Market to get some ingredients for an extra special dinner.

Not much. Over to Ma's for dinner. Her birthday is on the 10th, so Mother's Day is usually very low key.

My version (minus the blood pudding) is:

Bacon, Irish Sausage, Fried Tomatoes (fresh sliced in half and fried in bacon fat), Mushrooms, Fried Bread (Ditto with the bacon Fat)

Oh, and lashings of HP Sauce. Not forgetting a piping hot cup of reaaaaaalllllly strong tea, with a good footie match on the tv to cap it off (nod to Rudy and the second biggest event occurring tomorrow) :-)

Good thread! How lovely to hear of people's plans. I'm going to spend the day working in my garden in memory of my moms. Yup there were two. My first mom, that I had till I was 19, loved lilacs so I'll bring some in off of my tree to put in the house as she always did. She was a quiet sweet lady that played with my hair a lot. My second mom that I had for the next 32 years (my best friends mom) was jewish from New York so in her memory I will allow the words "you're not going to put that plant THERE are you?" with her wonderful accent (that she didn't have, right Mom) wash through my brain. OK I'm exagerating, she wasn't that bad. Oh wait, yes she was, mustn't forget her rolling down the car window and yelling with all her 5 foot nothing frame "You Moron, That was my space". Funny, sharp, wonderful woman she was. I am a lucky girl to have had two.

OK, lets get real shmaltsy. I want to hear some good Mom stories, here's one to start it off. Several years ago I had two foster sons. One day I was driving in the rain and hit a big puddle and one of them said with all seriousness "Auntie, the car just stepped in something"

When I was in third grade I felt ill and went to the nurse's office. Called home and said "Mommy, I don't feel good". The lady who answered said she was sorry I was ill, but she didn't think she was my mom and then asked my mother's name. I told her that her name is Mommy. She said she was a mommy, but not my mom. She then asked to talk to the nurse, who realized I had dialed a wrong number. The nurse then dialed the correct number and Mom came right away. I still remember the kind way this lady talked to me and her genuine concern. She was very kind to a sick little kid she didn't even know.

That is my shmaltzy contribution for Mother's Day.

My 22 yr old son called me this morning - he was with his buddies, but called and we spoke for a good while. Then about 2 hrs later I received flowers from him - the card read " Mom, You have no idea how important you are. Happy Mother's Day"
    Of course I cried.

    Aunt Salad...

    That almost got me tearful!

I got an amazing gift from my kids this morning (something I really wanted). If that wasn't enough, Kid #1 came home from work a little while ago and dropped a bag next to me, containing my favorite chocolates, with the order NOT to share them with anyone else. Damn. I raised him well :-)
