  1. HI, I've used the iPad enough to learn what I cannot do on it. Can't change my avatar, can't use photobucket or picassa.

So does anyone have an app recommendation for uploading pics??
Photo Transfer app.?? OR Web Albums For iPad--Picasso Viewer, Uploader and Manager app??

Can't recall right now what else I need

If it's not too late, I'd consider a tablet on a different platform. As a toy, the ipad is fun, but its usefulness is very limited.

  6. IPad for me!! I prefer Mac platforms; also have a PowerBook and have had the iPad for a while. I am very happy with it regardless of the fact that it can't do everything yet!

With all due respect, Allison, there are no tablets anywhere as useful as the iPad. Based on the title of the post I was going to list the apps I Iike the best, but I don't have any photo apps. All of my photos are automatically downloaded from iPhoto, which is all I need. I'll save my favorite apps for a later post!

You may be right about other tablets--I just know that for me (a pc user) the mac tablet doesn't do near what I need it to do. The vast majority of the world use PCs, again, including me, and I'm not interested in taking the time to convert things to a mac-friendly environment. I DO use an ipod, but itunes is such a POS I will probably go Zune at some point, surely MSFT can do a decent database. The iphone seems really cool, but neither the phone nor the pad run Flash, so that's a deal-breaker.

That said, it appears the OP is happy using a Mac. Didn't mean to start the war--I've tried to overcome my dislike for the Mac cult, but the products just don't fly my kite.

  9. For what it's worth, iTunes is much less awful on a OSX. Also, Office 2011 for Mac is pretty fantastic. I can finally do all of my work on my MacBook without having to dual boot Windows, and I haven't had any compatibility issues with people running Office 2010. The only thing that Mac is still awful for is gaming, but even that seems to be changing.

I haven't heard anything good about Flash on Android. I think it's unfortunate that Google latched onto that as a selling point, it would have been nice if all of the major players withdrew support from Flash so that content providers would start moving towards HTML 5. Flash is a buggy, insecure, bloated, battery-hogging mess, and it needs to be put down. These days it seems like I update it more often than I use it.

(Yep, I'm a huge iWhore. Huge.)

I've had an Android phone for almost a year and Flash works fine on it.

The Android OS isn't as stable as I want it to be, but I'm pretty used to the rock-solid stability of W7.

I don't care about gaming, I just want to get my work done and listen to music and do a few other things. I DO like the fact that no koolaid drinking is required for using the non-Mac products. I don't think there is an equivalent to "iwhore" except maybe The "I don't care to be identified by the brand of my computer" set.

Although you've gone out of your way to identify yourself as a PC user, no? :)

I don't know why PC Users are so bitter about everything Mac. At the end of the day - they simply work better. Allison...you're pissed off about iTunes not working properly. You claim not to buy into the 'cult of Mac' but you did just that when you bought your iPod. There are alternatives out there you know.

It was the best option at the time. Since I'm not committed to one platform or another, I tried it out, but now that there are other options out there, I'll probably switch. That database isn't gonna win over any non-Mac users.

If I was in a PC cult, wouldn't I have a Windows phone? I don't know, I have not been in any cults lately. :)

As both a PC and an Apple product user, I'll go ahead and say I love both platforms for different reasons. I have PCs for "real" work, but can certainly get work done on my iPad, iPhone, etc. Oh and I have a Kindle, so does that just make me crazy? I really wouldn't call myself an iAnything lover.. but they're so darn pretty, and crazy useful, especially when on the go. And it's nice that just about everyone has one, so just about everyone's made an app for "that".

Back to the OPs original question though.. I did find a decent app for uploading photos to FB, if that's something else you're looking for (you can't do it through the FB page on an iPad). It's FB Uploader and while it's not the most beautiful thing out there, it worked well while we were in Europe and that's all I needed. I was also using Tumblr and there are a few apps for that (the free ones aren't HD for iPad, but worked just fine for me).

Question: Please recommend an ipad app.
Answers: Ipad sucks, get a different tablet. No it doesn't, yes it does.

OP: Did you try http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photo-transfer-app/id365152940?mt=8 ?

As for my useless 2cents, I am a huge android fan despite the fragmentation of the platform. Despite working with Android and having multiple android phones, there isn't a tablet offering out there (in my opinion) that beats the ease of use and functionality offered by the Ipad2+ios offering. If you are one of those people who loves putting custom Android builds on your devices, yes, look at other options. If not, as much as I detest Jobs, the Ipad2 is above the rest.

Why can't people just use what works for them without defending their choices (and refraining from attacking other people's choices) ?

    Posting from an iPad.

It's overrated and I can't imagine dropping 500 bucks for this. Thankfully it was given to me. Just my .02

Hi Smartsy Artsy...if you don't have it already get AppStart for free. It goes through everything you need to make your iPad work for you. It discusses the different choices in apps and rates them so you can see what you need. Then, if you like it, get AppAdvice. That one gives the latest weekly updates on the apps available for iPads and iPhones. I think it was a couple of dollars but definitely worth it. FWIW, I just spent a month in AZ helping my daughter with her new baby with my iPad and not the laptop and was able to do just about everything I needed to do, including loading pictures from my camera (got a handy dandy device from the Apple Store for that so I don't have to sync), emailing, watching TV, listening to the radio, reading books. Granted, I don't use it for business but if I needed to I probably could.

Here's my two cents about Dropbox:

    http://goo.gl/m5AKo & http://goo.gl/qnC13

It's a nifty idea but appears to be flawed at multiple levels at the implementation level.

  21. Thanks everyone. Lilybelle,I hope you had a fabulous time with your daughter and her new baby. I did download the AppStart; going through it. I don't believe Dropbox is very secure at this time, so I will research others.

Let's keep this thread going. Post a thought about a any great app you have found for the iPad.

    LET'S CREATE POTTERY
My nephew turned me on to this very fun app. We are both ceramic artists but I think it's fun for anyone with an interest in creating virtual art. It costs $4.99 (well worth it IMO) and there is a Lite version for Free

    BAMBOO PAPER
A freehand notebook. Ok via human touch, and better via stylus.

SmartsyArtsy, Thanks, I DID have a wonderful time. I arrived several days early to get some projects done but he arrived the day after I did. Coincidentally, we had gone out to a very spicy Mexican dinner that night and were joking about it speeding things along. Guess what...it did. He came that night. He is adorable and I stayed a month.

  23. Hello, I'm Smartsyartsy and I am an addict…addicted to the game app "Venice Mystery"…Mahjong at it's base, but more interesting, and some special challenges that are fun for a visual artist.

  28. My nephew's son has been active on his iPad since he was 3. That's how I get samples of his art! He is now 5 and teaching his younger brother (2 ½ ) to do the same. Both parents believe this comes before watching DVDs. It has not, though negated the importance in quiet time reading books.
