I have not been posting here much lately but when I used to I would occasionally get the HTTP 500 error message and then I could not post any more or log in on any of my MS Windows computer, but I could on my Linux computer! Well that just happened to me again right now!
So I am on the Ubuntu laptop right now.
My question is, do any of you have the same problem? It is not about doing a refresh or clearing the cache. I have changed computers but both are Windows systems, still can't log in. Change to Linux and I can log in.
I believe the problem is on the Myballard Host system, I don't know what system it is but I do know that IIS has a known documented problem and there is a fix for it.

Well now this is very odd! I got the above message on my MS desktop system and then I tried a notebook, same problem and the a laptop with Ubuntu and that worked. Now I check back on the desktop and i am still logged in and active! Go figure. It does happen a lot if I am posting lots of messages, well not lots but actively communicating. I am one of those personalities that loves to figure out what is causing the situation and how to fix it! So I need input. Thanks.

I have not had this issue in some time, but have encountered it many times. I agree it seemed to happen when I'm posting a lot and thought it was a problem with the Myballard host system as well.I mostly post from a windows computer.

great idea - interesting! As I mentioned I was on my desktop system and it has Vista, I got the error, switched to a netbook that has XP, couldn't log in same error, switched to notebook with Ubuntu and I could login! Then after a while I checked the desktop and lo and behold I was still logged in there!
It appears to be their problem but I will admit that I don't post messages on any other website as rapidly as I do here, when I am here :)Posted 1 year ago # -
Isn't this just the browser issue? If you refresh or post a bunch you get the "can't connect" message. Open Chrome and it will work just fine. Usually you can go right back to IE. It works with Firefox too.

It happened to me and I thought I was being punished.

It happens to me all the time, at least once a day, and yes, I see it as punishment.
...yeah, in fairness, I probably deserve it...

It's a browser issue with this site's forum specifically (you can still see the front page stories when it happens). If you're logged in and you refresh/load forum pages too much, it inevitably goes to a 500 error page. If you switch to another browser for a while it works just fine and eventually you're able to load the forum again in the original browser. I've never had this problem on any other site, not really sure why it even happens.

Fixing 500 errors - general
This error can only be resolved by fixes to the Web server software. It is not a client-side problem. It is up to the operators of the Web server site to locate and analyse the logs which should give further information about the error.
