Any other woman out there that want to go dancing on a regular basis for exercise? Any of the choreographed dancing like contra (that reallllly gets your heart rate up) country line dancing, zydeco, whatever. I don't care if it's doofy. I need exercise and I need a buddy - or several.

LIA, have you ever tried Zumba? I attempted it once and it was fun, even though I sucked at it. (Didn't go again because of a shoulder injury...but I would if you are interested!)

Sounds great! I'll try anything once. That's not true. Some things would be dumb to try once. Smacking a police officer. Things like that. What was the question?
    Talk to you soon.

Life - are you looking for a class or just get together and boogie down? Zumba is fun but it can be a lil hard on the knees - its a lot of twisting, and the wrong shoes can stick to the floor.

If you like a class, you can try tap dancing. Its actually really fun. Or adult ballet.

Otherwise, just going out dancing is quite fun :)

    Hi Panda,
Tap dancing is fun. In my time in theater I've done them all, tap, jazz, ballroom, modern, ballet. I considered myself a double and a half threat. I could act and sing and was only half bad at dancing :)
I was hoping to find someone that wants to just go dancing. Contra dancing is perfect. It only costs 8 bucks, gives a lot of exercise and there is usually 2 or 3 a week around this area. Also, the Little Red Hen has line dancing. Anyone interested. Girls night out? Ballardo? Maybe we could even talk little Ballardo into coming.

I've been meaning to whip up a couple of full-skirted non-sleeve dresses and get back Contradancing again! PNA still have it going once a week? I used to contra at the Tavern, but then they stopped hosting it and Ballard kind of lost all contra, and the Lake City one i tried was not very friendly to strangers. Which is kind of not what the contra world was about - inclusion and friendliness and dancing with anyone who asks! (Unless, like me, one is tomato-red in the fact and just needs to go outside and breath in deep gulps of icy cold air and down a liter of water!) :)

Sadly, "contra dancing" always makes me think of Reagan, Central America, and inquiries (you know, dancing by the truth...).

oddly enough, I might be up for something like that. Keep in mind I am painfully white so salsa is out unless there is alcohol involved. Let me know if there are plans to do anything like this. Please :)

My friend has the new club at the old club 449 building on 3rd & 85th. It's opened on friday and saturday's with top 40 music and espresso served. I used to hang out there a lot when it was club 449 back in the early 90's. Really was a lot of fun back then(:

I am thinking it is wonderful to dance and good exercise for the heart and soul being too but I am also thinking there is being a better place to be finding a dance partner than myballard.

Perhaps you should be looking at online dating sites for your rendezvous.

If that does not work maybe getting yourself a stack of singles and be heading to centerfolds for your working out.

Yep:) I used to go dancing there when doors opened and we'd stay until closing dancing the whole time. It was a lot of fun back in the day and a great workout. Those that didn't know how to dance, a lot of us would help them and show them, especially dances like the electric slide. I'll find some info on the new place and post it...

This sounds like fun and I'm all for it once I'm completely healed from surgery. I used go out every Friday/Saturday night dancing until closing. Never been in better shape - my waist was 26, which was good for me - some may think that's huge. When I first went I wouldn't go on floor until packed ; then one night thought, screw it, I don't know these people. Just go for it and I was a free spirit after that. On vacation in Mexico I came in second in a dance competition. It was so much fun (and must admit some alcohol was flowing that particular night which didn't hurt!!) I LOVE TO DANCE. Have never done line dancing but looks like fun and not sure what contra is.

    Hi Everyone!
Wow, I went out of the country for 2 weeks and just got back to see a very active thread! Fun. I am behind in everything but by the end of the week I should be up for it. I'll look into where there is Contra dancing and I'm interested in joining people on going to the club that Pinky mentioned. For those who don't know Contra, here is my description; It is a country type of dancing around which a community has grown - you see the same faces a lot. It is decidedly not a meat market and frankly - and this is only my opinion - is a bit on the dorky side so if you want to be cool this ain't for you. People are there to dance. Whoever asks, you say yes. They're not asking you for a date, they are just there to dance. It's sort of an unspoken rule that unless you're, like Blues said, ready for some air and water, you say yes to whoever asks. They walk through each dance a few times until people know it a bit then they start. When people get off step other people will push or pull you in the right direction with good humor knowing that it happens to everyone. I'll get back on when I'm a bit caught up. This is great that there is so much interest. If people get together before then let me know cause I wanna come : )
