Does anyone know if the QFC is still scheduled to open in December 2009?
Thanks!
Does anyone know if the QFC is still scheduled to open in December 2009?
Thanks!
Hi pandabur, we live very close to the to be QFC I can look out my window and see the progress daily and it appears to be on target for december 2009 or early 2010. I will ask the supervisior tomorrow and get actual date.
it will be really nice when they finish that humungous project....feels like its been in progress forever.
No Doubt eric, it does seem like FOREVER.
I'm looking forward to an easy walk to the store again.
Thanks so much - let me know what you find out. I'm moving back to the area this month and it will be great to have a grocery store within walking distance!
For the love of God...is this monster ever going to open?
We spoke with the developer who tells us that QFC is still on track to open mid-December.
If they don't open in time for the holidays, they'll lose tons of money.
I'm sure there's some incentive in the construction contract to ensure this doesn't happen.
I'm curious to see if the store opening will deter negative activity at the adjacent park.
I'm wondering if anyone knows a current employee of QFC to see about getting an "in" on the hiring there. :) I'm sure that they are getting swarmed with resumes, and since they use applicant tracking software, I know resumes can get buried in a jiff!
Anyone? The boyfriend would love to work there since it's < 3 blocks away. I'm also wondering how many QFC employees are moving from the 85th St store to the 24th Ave store. If it's pretty much everyone, then I'm sure they aren't doing much hiring at all.
I haven't been able to find anything that wasn't an online application. It's a long process and you're discouraged from talking to an actual human (don't call us, we'll call you). So, if your boyfriend finds a human lead will he share? :-)
As far as hiring. Everyone has to apply via the website (which is quite extensive in the questions that they ask) they just had some interviews at the "art church" on 22nd about 2 weeks ago. I was walking around and saw the signs about QFC interviews on the door and went in and asked. And thats what they told me.
Interviews at the "Art Church"? Stay classy QFC!
Yeah, Reba, the online application was one of the longest I'd ever encountered. And I didn't even get a call in to the Art Church. I miss the old way of doing it. Circle an ad, call the number, schedule an interview.
Looking forward to being able to walk down to 24th and get my fave coffee again, though. Ballard Market doesn't carry it.
Well I'll post back if he gets called - curious to know if anyone here gets a call too!
Wow QFC huh? Your boyfriend must have the highest of aspirations.
Either that, or he is 16.
Wow Barney, I bet you'd get pretty hungry if no one wanted to work at the grocery store.
Either that or you're a farmer
Hey, man, a days work is a days work. At this point I'd happily work anywhere that would hire me. And I bet pandabur's bf is in the same sad boat.
That's low Barney.
After a year + of unemployment.. I'd happily stock shelves as long as I know I can continue to pay my rent. And if working at qfc does that so be it. Unfortunately, I have not been contacted.
I am also looking forward it to opening.. for those items I forgot for a dinner/late night snacks.
What industry were you in? I was laid off earlier in the week and you guys are making me nervous with this one year of unemployment stuff.
I was laid off in January, and mine is not an unusual situation. There are just so many people looking for so few jobs. There was a story in the paper (can't recall the date so not linking it) about a CEO who was laid off, after 6 months he got a job as a janitor. And he had an in at the company to get that.
Start-ups and the like throw around job titles like you wouldn't believe. So that doesn't hold much water for me.
The reason I ask is that I already have a few leads and spoke with a recruiter today. The only problem with first position that came along was distance. If it was a little more $$ I would have been on it.
I'm just looking for a simple admin/receptionist job. But so are about 10k other people. I think I will be applying at safeway tomorrow. I know someone that works there. So I am not looking for a "fancy" job at this point. Just a job.
Ditto. Admin/Receptionist are the majority of those who get the ax so there are a lot of us. If I weren't so out of shape now I'd get into housekeeping again. Might give that a shot anyway. A days work is a days work.
I've been "housecleaning" for some of my friends for really cheap. Just to make ends meet and try to have a social life. Its a bit awkward..cleaning my friends houses but.. gotta do what ya gotta do sometimes.
I still cant get over how long and extensive that online application for qfc was. I think it took me well over 30 mins to complete it. I've done a lot of online applications.. none were ever that technical.
I know, normally they just ask for the info on your resume, a ten minute process tops. But the QFC one was nuts.
I've gotten into Cookie Lee but many of my friends are in sad financial shape too so that doesn't bring in much.
Good things are going to happen to those of you now hunting for jobs, networking, and doing what you can to make ends meet! I totally respect your "a day's work is a day's work" attitude. It's going to pay-off. (Luckily folks here are too smart to pay attention to Barney Stinson's offensive and truly mean-spirited display of ignorance earlier in this thread. Loser.)
Thanks for the good thoughts, BallardTrees. :-)
I'm self employed so I'm a little out of the loop, but how is that Reba and Nora Bell who can spell, type out a cogent thought, have a decent work ethic, and otherwise come across as very capable people are unemployed while I have to deal with idiots, nincompoops, and f---tards at just about every business I come in contact with?
I will have to go in to these businesses and fire their employees and replace them with you. Deal?
First off, the nephew often calls me a f---tard and it's nice to have a second opinion. So thank you for that.
Second, it's all about competition. I can't speak for Reba, but my experience has been that I can really nail the first interview, get a second one that I also nail, and still end up getting the 'We've decided to go with someone else at this time but will keep your resume on file for future openings' call. There are just so many people out there looking for work it's hard to separate yourself from the herd.
I've been unemployed for about a year and a half...I get the "you're grossly overqualified" thing; nobody wants to hire me to be a receptionist when I could be the program director. I have an entire file of rejection letters along that line. And my unemployment runs out in two weeks.
Perhaps we should start up a cleaning company? Given how hard it truly is to find contientious, reliable, hard-working, thorough cleaning services with a decent work ethic.Actually, as SPG pointed out, that seems to be the norm in any customer-service job I've interacted with recently *with the excepetion of BECU*...indifferent,uninterested, lazy, etc. I almost said to a clerk the other day "I'll give you $20 if you tell me how you got this job...I'll give you $40 if you tell me how you KEEP it.." (but I didn't.)
I worked in job placement for 8 years...you'd think I could find a job.
Same for me. Cept for the fact that my interviews are few and far between. But the "we've decided to go with another candidate" has become my new personal mantra at times. This one interview.. I so thought I had that one. I was one of 6. They thought I was awesome. They actually said that. Still nothing.
I've done over 7+ years of admin work including reception, plus 4+ years of solid customer service. Giving me the 1-2 punch of being the perfect receptionist. Oh it just makes me sad to even think about it.
I'll gladly clean peoples houses in ballard, I can walk there and I'm cheap and work hard. Wait what was this thread about again. :)
I know my unemployment is going to run out soon. I'm already selling off my possessions, I dont want to lose this apartment. Thanks to everyone for the good thoughts. I keep my chin up and keep up hope for finding work. But sometimes It does get a little down.
Barney S - WOW - that was a nasty comment about someone you don't know. He wants a low key job that he can walk to. As you can see, there isn't a lot out there. QFC is stable and it offers lots of shifts and positions.
All - I am the HR Director for a law firm / servicing org in D'town Seattle. Next time we are hiring, I'll post it here. We are hiring for Data Ops Admin (pretty high end data analysis) posted on C'list. Reba and Nora Bell - we are frequently looking for the exp office clerical worker who has a great work ethic and customer service attitude to do legal clerk work. I posted once before on here in the summer, no one responded. Its not the best pay ($12 - $14/hr) but it's steady, full time, downtown, with benefits.
Anyway - it is tough out there - keep your chin up! It'll happen!!!
I gotta stop reading this thread!! You guys are making me nervous!
Sorry, Barney. It's rough out there. 10 years at the same company haven't gotten me very far. Like Reba I've been told I was one of the 'top candidates' only to find out that doesn't count for much anymore.
Jules, not a bad idea. My specialty was bathrooms. ;-)
Just a little note to say I agree 100% with pandabur: Don't give up. It will happen! You can do it! There is a place waiting for you! (I am speaking from experience.)
I know a couple of folks who have had luck with employers such as the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and places like that. Work in the health field continues, recession or not, and there are many administrative-type positions, some of which open up at times.
I know I am talking to savvy jobhunting experts here, but I want to put in a plug for "temp jobs": They are a great way to publicize your awesomeness and sometimes you can get "first dibs" on longterm positions.
We are rooting for you!
Agree with Ballard Trees - Do not disqualify agencies either - let them find you the job! Office Team / Accountemps / Robert Half (all connected) are great depending on what you want. Its great to get yourself in the door and prove yourself. Word of advice, make sure whomever you end up working with at an agency cares about you and their rep. Some agency recruiters have that churn and burn mindset, but most do care about the quality. Just make sure you interview your recruiter too - then you will be confident that they are placing you in the right jobs for your skill set AND personality. It helps! :)
Some of you are way to sensitive.
I myself just got back into the working world after 7 months of unemployment.
Keep the faith, and don't sell yourself short just for the sake of having a job.
Ladies I highly recommend a goggle of USAJOBS. The one organization that IS hiring right now is the federal government. A quick search and I brought up at least 10 entry level positions that someone with receptionists skills would qualify for. They are not particularly high paying but better than QFC and you get benefits.
Applying can be a chore. More than 30 minutes for sure and some agencies require a separate registration on their own web site. Once it’s done however all you need to do is sign on and apply. Occasionally there might be some questions to answer in essay form or sometimes multiple choices. You do have to be patient but after a year unemployed I would guess you have plenty of that. It took me 8 months of applying before I got hired but in the 6 years since I have had 6 promotions.
Wow. My heart goes out to all of you. (With the notable exception of Barney. WTF, Mr. Sunshine?!)
I'm a freelance/self-employed filmmaker/propagandist. My industry has been hammered the last 2 years due to the economy, and sweeping technological / social changes. (Darwinism can be a real bitch.) Thing is, when you're self-employed, there's no hard and fast date your job ends. After many months of no work you start to clue in. "Is this just an extended slow period, or...?"
Perhaps we should have monthly Stone Soup parties for all of us un/underemployed Ballardites?
Or, perhaps Barney might want to treat us to happy hour somewhere, now that he's working again.
Hang in there, everyone, and kudos to those who aren't afraid to do what thy have to do to get by for now. 'Survival is the new Success' they say.
