I was one of the few people hired by QFC for the store opening. I just finished my classroom training (also held at the art church) last night. From what I've been told there were 35 new hires for the store. The rest will come from with-in the company. They received around 400 application. They still need to hire more courtesy clerks but seem to be looking for high school aged kids.

Times are hard and you have to do what you have to. I've been out of work since I moved to Washington in June. It takes a lot of money to get established in a new state. I may not have a prestigious job but I can pay my bills and keep afloat.

As for the opening. They're going to do everything they can to have it ready. There's a lot of money and work that go into a grand opening and it would really hurt to blow it.

Tim - Congrats! What position did you get? Do you know if any stocking shelves jobs are still available? Graveyard or swing shifts are fine. Whatever you know about it, let us know, OK? :)

I got on night crew. As far as I know the public hiring for the store is closed but I could be wrong on that.

    Edit to add:

If you're looking to get hired on by them expect a long process. The application was the easy part. After that I had 4 interviews and finished it all off with a drug test.

    Fun stuff...

Reba/Nora, I will be happy to look over your resumes, if you wish. (I worked in the Job Placement Center at the UW for 8 years.) It's difficult to be objective about your own resume...I had a friend who worked with me there at the UW re-do mine.

Sorry to have to hi-jack this thread back to the original subject, but what's with that crazy trellis that just went up on the west side? I've seen some ugly ones in my day, but I don't know what to make of this one.

Sorry to hear all the unemployment stories. Hang in there.

What does the trellis have to do with original subject of opening date?

I also question that trellis Boardbrown. It sure doesn't look like it was done by the same guy that designed the building. Definitely some sort of afterthought...
A little Gehry-esque swoosh to give it that cosmopolitan feel for the condo-dwelling hipsters? A little wood to appease the Scandanavian crowd? Some vague connection to 'Shelter' for the pub-crawling passerby?

and yes motorad, it's possible construction of that trellis has delayed opening :)

So the answer is December 16th ?

Direct question from the Op and then alot to trash to read through.

Just curious is that noted offically anywhere or a rumor still ?

Oh, yeah that tressel construct on 24th side, hopefully is not the finished design.Looks broken.

The trellis is a roof structure that will capture rain water. The rain will move to the center of the structure and then down a spout and into a rain garden of some sort.

Way way back Barney slammed someone for looking for a job at QFC. He apparently does not know how much you can make working at a grocery store chain. It's the best pay of retail around. Anyway, who has a job or is looking for a job in order to stand on their own two feet and make a life for themselves has my respect. I know some rich folks who couldn't handle "real work" if presented with it just as well as I know some bums who couldn't handle real work. I think it's sad when people look down on others who have perfectly legitimate jobs.

Oh - and thanks for updating us on when that QFC opens. I'm tired of schlepping it down to Holman QFC although it is pretty cool they have a post office on site.

By the way - I definitely do not have enough clients right now and no one seems to be able to afford me so I'd be up for starting a cleaning business with Nora Bell and Jules also. Seriously. Of course the big money is in hazmat cleaning. =shudder=

    Tim,

Didn't you say to me the today (I think) that the QFC opening is being pushed further out or at least might be?

I like the rain garden idea. However, it just looks so odd. I'll reserve final judgement until the thing is finished though.
