I am really getting sick of people around the Locks area telling me to pick up after my dog. I don't really care for rant postings, but now see why people feel the need to from time to time to do so.

Here is mine... I have had bus drivers, City Light employees, Neighbors and this evening an employee ending her shift at Red Mill Totem House tell me to pick up after my dog.

I am consistent about picking up after my dog as well as other peoples dogs when in the vicinity of where my dog has done her business. I am getting really pissed at entitled people telling me I didn't pick up after my dog, and even more pissed when people give these passive aggressive statements like the Red Mill employee did this evening, "don't worry I'll pick that up on my way back to work in the morning. It's ok... I'm a dog lover... I'll get it in the morning".

So here is what I have to say for those entitled, passive aggressive, don't mind your own business dog $h!t Police.

I take care of my dog, her #2's and like doing my part to keep the neighborhood clean.

When my dog squats to do her business doesn't mean she's taking a $h!t. IT MEANS SHE'S A BITCH!

One last thing 'Employee' of Red Mill, When you leave your place of work in uniform and make an ass of yourself. You are representing your employment just as much as representing entitled self.

    End rant..

One way to immunize yourself from most of this sort of BS is to visibly display a baggie on the dog's leash.

And it helps people to believe you're picking up if you carry the bag even when it's full. We're new to dog ownership, and that is a tip we were given by a long time dog owner. We've only had one person approach with the passive aggressive stuff like the OP is experiencing.

if you always clean up after your dog, this should roll off your back.

I see nothing wrong with these reminders--I'm sure those people are speaking from experience at having stepped in something left behind.

also, when a female dog squats to pee, she usually doesn't arch her back to evacuate her bowels. it's quite a different stance, and I've had others yell at me to 'scoop it' even when that wasn't possible. I once replied "do you have a sponge for me to absorb that pee from the grass?"

point is, it's not worth getting all riled up about. or calling out a restaurant employee who obviously dislikes this part of her job (and made a joke about it).
don't take it personally--there's many bad dog-owners who represent you.

Mattataya - when my dog was alive and taking her for a walk I've ran into the same thing - where she was squatting to pee & have owner come running out of house & say 'pick up your dog's sh*t!" I just said come on down & look. You'll see she did not poop on your parking strip. That females do squat to pee. (but inwardly I was saying "go f**k yourself"
BH - do you seriously think that all of Seattle is passive aggressive? If that was true, what a sad state we'd be in.

Again people around here need to learn the meaning of passive aggressive. If someone comes towards you, and takes action, even by only using their voice, it is not passive but explicit and active!!!!!

Even if they use the passive voice of reported speech and say "the dog sh*t will be picked up" as opposed to the active voice of "hey, you pick up your dog sh*t" it is an overt act, and an explicitly aggressive position they've have taken with you, NOT PASSIVE!!!!!!!!

in my opinion there are an increasing amount of irresponsible dog-owners.

on the trails at Discovery Park, I see about 1/2 of the dogs walking sans-a-leash. this number was about 20% several years ago.

I commonly see people walk their dog down my street w/o a leash, even though there might be small children or pets in their own yard. they are often quite far behind/ahead of their dog, so do not scoop (out-of-site, out-of-mind).

yeah, passive-agressive would've been if that employee said loudly to her friend "boy, I hope there's no dog poop to scoop before the end of my shift!"
    she did address you afterall.

I can imagine that area (or any city or business-owned property) would see even more than their share since many don't see their inconsiderate actions as personal when it's not in front of a house.

I can't go to Discovery Park without seeing dogs off leash. Everyone seems to think the laws apply to someone else. Last time I was in Discovery I had my dog on a leash and another dog came running up to him. I'm sure the little fur ball meant to play with my dog but have you ever heard the term "leash aggression"? Well my dog grabbed the little fur ball and shook him like a rag doll. Amazing thing is the owner of the off leash dog had the audacity to yell at me. Needless to say I read her the riot act and reminded her this was entirely her fault for not obeying the clearly posted law. Of course the only thing more annoying than off leash dogs are the idiots have seem to feel the need to have a 20 foot leash when walking on a 6 foot wide trail and thus have little control over their dogs. Hey morons, if you see someone running towards you on the trail the polite thing to do is pull your dog in so you don't trip and possibly injure other trail users. People just seem to think they live in some sort of bubble where their "rights" enable them to do whatever the hell they want with zero consideration for other people.

The Red Mill owner has an amazing mustache and likes the Rolling Stones. People who don't know how to control their pets are like those parents who move through the physical plane with their children that the world revolves around taking up space and causing mayhem then complaining about people lighting fireworks and reveling with roving party bands because it upsets the kids and airplane pilot's sleep schedules.

Oh, yeah. The off leash dogs tick me off much more than owners who don't pick up dog poop. WTH? Do they not realize how dangerous that is for, not only other dogs, but their own dog.

Keep your dog on a leash and pick up their poop. How hard is it? As for the non dog owners - If you see a dog squatting it's 50/50 that there will be a dump at the end of it. If you see a dog poop and the owner doesn't pick it up forget passive aggressive. Shout at them.

The OP may be passive aggressive by ranting here, but he/she has a point. I'm as annoyed as anyone else by irresponsible dog owners (like the ones who leave plastic bags of dog shit on my street), but unless someone actually sees the OP's dog shitting and him/her not picking it up, people should mind their own bloody business. I detest nanny, scoldy hall monitors, possibly even more than I loathe passive aggressive types. The Northwest is notorious for this. Highly annoying.

I agree with you Compass Rose. People tend to jump to conclusions (especially if they dont have a dog). Just because a dog stops on your property, it doesn't mean they are taking a dump. If it's a female she could be squatting to pee, or a male might just be having a sniff around. I'm up in hillbilly land so I don't even have the luxury of poop on the sidewalk - it's in my front yard. I've done the 'oi, pick up yer dog crap' a few times, but thankfully it isn't too often.

Matt, just ask her how she figured out a way to pick up evaporated urine on her way in to work.

Also for the rest of us, ask her what's in Red mill's secret sauce, ok?
