Saw this in the story on the main page:

"Seattle Parks will light up some nearby parks to discourage the use of fireworks. Fireworks are illegal in the City of Seattle and will destroy the artificial turf on the fields. The ballfield lights will be turned on at approximately 8:45 p.m. and will be turned off at either 10 p.m. or 11 p.m., depending on the field. ..."

So, if the lights really work, why only have them on for a bit more than an hour or a bit more than 2 hours, depending on location? Why not all night, or at least until midnight?

They will give everyone light enough to get on the field safe, then the lights go out for the fire works! Sometimes they just don't think things through. Besides it is the 'Bang! and not really the fireworks that kids like.

Highly unlikely. If people want to set off fireworks...

What a waste of time and money. People have been setting them off all day.

Going over to Alviso again this year, best illegal fireworks display I've ever seen...
Brand new fire station a block away from where it all happens, a little solace but will still hold my breath that no one gets injured this year again... traditions are hard to break.
    ;))

Automatic sprinklers would work. Turn them on from midnight to 1am. Isn't it best to water at night in summer time anyway?

I could be wrong, but I don't think they have to water the astro turf :)

Loyal Heights is the only field w/AstroTurf. Ballard CC & Gilman are still grass. So you said you had a lot of fireworks, Corvus. Where do you get them? Do you go up to Tulalip or another reservation or something? Do you set them off in your driveway, or somewhere else? Just curious. You're the only person I've seen admit to setting them off. :)

I bought them in Woodinville. We light them in the street and driveway. Every kid on the street and most of the parents gather round to watch. I may be the only one on the forum admitting it but there we tons of people all around us that were lighting them also. Big sparkley ones too :)

We saw some folks sending up big sparkly ones in Fremont in their yard. Small yard right between two houses. So stupid! They were only feet away from a nice, open concrete intersection that would have been much safer. Still, drove by this morning and nothing looked to have burnt down.

FYI - Corvus bought the fireworks in unincorporated Snohomish County near Woodinville. Fireworks are illegal in Woodinville. But much like Seattle it doesn't stop people from setting them off on the 4th. But we all have to buy them outside the city limits.
