Is there such a thing as a neighborhood kid that mows lawns anymore?

    Someone I know was just bemoaning this fact as well. That the children in his neighborhood do many things, but the manual labor of mowing lawns is not one of them.

    Just out of curiosity, do you know what they charge?

    A couple of years ago it was around $40 for a mow and edge. Big brother has now passed the mower to his sister; she seems to do a good job.

    So now the problem is how, on a public forum, is the best way to see if she wants more work?

    Well, you know that there is no way she doesn't have a Facebook account. Just got to find her name (So now the problem is how, on a public forum, is the best way to see if she wants more work?)

    Yes but I feel like I'm supposed to code it somehow. I'm a complete computer boob so I don't know why they do it but it seems like no one ever puts their email in normally.

    I posted here last year looking for a neighborhood kid to do odd jobs and all I got was a rash of criticism for trying to take advantage of people. And we wonder why they all have huge debt coming out of college.

    @lifeisamazing,

    Its called white liberal guilt. These people feel that all employees deserve middle class wages.

    In their view, apparently its better for them to have no job than to work for an amount that is "beneath them."

    @LIA: Like it says, I was trying to take advantage of someone. Look it up in the archives.

    @ JIB - Leave it to Beaver was canceled a long time ago. Just do what the rest of America does these days, drive by home depot and pick up a few Mexicans.

    One summer during high school, between a daily morning paper route, and mowing lawns, I banked more money than my father, who was a firefighter. My hourly 'rate' was near forty bucks an hour. Over three decades ago, fwiw.

    I also collected cans all over, as well as did odd jobs. Dad yanked my allowance of 2 bucks a week. waaah

    I'm much more concerned about kids losing (or never gaining) a work ethic than what folks think a kid should earn for showing up.

    I guess I should feel "white guilt?" wut-eva
