For those who haven't been following the other thread, there's a potluck happening at 4:30 Thursday, August 2nd at Golden Gardens. Not out of work yet? Not to panic, firewood will be brought and we'll go long into the evening.

I'll bring Ballardopoly, we'll see how we like it and it may go home with the person who likes it the most. I'll also bring bocce ball for us to toss around. My plan is to do something with the dutch oven as well.

So come, bring something yummy, hang out and have fun with us! Heck, we could use some hotdogs/marshmallows for the fire.

    Phoo,

Work has been crazy so no promises, but I will surely try to make it.
What kinds of things have the potluck been short of in past gatherings? If I can be there I can try to fill in the gaps.
Feel free to holler at me too if you see a food gap showing up as the date approaches.

phoo - sorry but I have to work that evening, I'll be at an Energizer Station on the BGT in the U Dist 3:30 - 6:30.
So can't supply any wood :(

oh bummer. We are now officially in need of wood again! (put those dirty thoughts away, I mean dead trees.)

dsomers: Not sure about the food gap atm, though people usually expect paper/plastic ware, so these are things we could use.

VB: I am so sorry you can't make it. I am hoping folks will still be around in force then, but of course you'll still have to get back, to golden gardens, and I know I would be too tired at that point to make it as well.

If folks post what they may be bringing (no need to make it hard and fast), that should help other people decide what to bring and fill in the gaps.

I am still thinking myself, but am considering a roasted chicken on veggies in a dutch oven (sorry veggies!)

I should mention that the early 4:30 time is to be sure to get parking, a table, and a pit. Food won't be for another hour or so. However, we'll be having a good time with ballardopoly, bocce ball, etc. And of course this gives people time who want to cook on site (like I will be).

Bonus if anyone has a popup cover in case the weather that day is less than ideal. Think how awesome it would be near a fire pit so we could still huddle near the fire. :)

Cross your fingers though, the weather for that day is thus far predicted as sunny and 70!

    Bump!

I've decided to have my rebirthday August 2nd. I'll bring a yummy cake and celebrate my 40th. Earlier this year was a bad time for me so I decided to skip my birthday for a bit. Now it is sunny out, folks are hopefully coming out to enjoy a day at the beach and have a great time!

We'll play games from 4:30 to 5:30 - feel free to bring something (it'll come in handy after food too!). Potluck will start around 5:30 or 6, to give folks a chance to get over from work. If someone can bring wood, we'll have a fire long into the evening as well.

A reminder about the Golden Gardens shindig! There will be games, cake, potluck deliciousness and good company.

Something that we could *really* use is someone to bring some paper/plastic plates, cups, etc. Otherwise, just bring your own.

phoo & others - tomorrow night at GG, about 9:00-ish Comcast is putting on a fireworks display. They are having some private party at the Shilshole Club (think Elks?). I and others in the area received a letter or email about it - giving us a heads up about the noise of the fireworks. So to cap your party - fireworks!!!

OH MY. Good thing I made it 4:30! Hopefully that is early enough. I do hope someone is able to bring some firewood. That will make for a really awesome potluck and rebirthday!

BTW, I'm thinking of switching my dish to either Phad Thai or fried rice. Either way, it'll be yummy.

As far as parking, I'm hoping this won't affect it. Best view for us "Sunset Hillers" would be Sunset Hill Park on 34th. How many people are coming to your party, phoo? You are quite the chef. I could learn from you!

Thank you, but I like to make pretty simple food. :) I favour the lazy approach to cooking - crockpot, one pot food, etc. I am more about comfort food than the folks who like to spend $$$ on super gourmet dishes. Then again, I DO like flavor in my dishes, which can be a bit of a conflict for anyone with a staunch upper NE palate. If I make Phad Thai, it'll be super plain, with condiments on the side this time. Still not sure what I am gonna do. It may depend on the price of chicken.

Not sure about how many people. I have 2-3 non-ballard friends coming, plus all the ballard folks. So, the sooner folks come, the better. OTOH, there may not be a lot of advertising for this to the public and folks going to the fireworks may not be parking at the park. It's gonna be a great time!

My DH and I hope to make it, Phoo. I'll probably bring finger food: artichoke dip baked in wonton cups. With plenty of cheese and garlic.

Chef Wahoo - that sounds delish. Something I've never had - in wonton cups. Love all the ideas of dishes here.

oh YUM. That sounds amazing, Chef Wahoo!
It looks like I am going with my original plan, PITA of dragging all the equipment down and all: chicken thighs with carrots, potatoes and onions. But we'll have it fresh cooked and you'll be able to smell it. In fact, I may hold off on it for a little bit so that the temp drops a little before we dig into such hearty food. Believe it or not, chicken thighs are actually more cost effective than rice noodles (unless maybe you go to Uwajamaya, which I'm not able to do today).

phoo - those cooks who "like to spend $$$ on super gourmet dishes." may not be good cooks. Just about anyone can make expensive ingredients like Copper River salmon or chantrelles taste good. The cooks like you who can make something yummy while still watching the budget are the true chefs. Sorry I won't be there tomorrow night to try your food. You too Chef Wahoo.

Cat, sorry you won't be able to make it. We'll think of you.

And on the food note, the chicken just went in the soy sauce honey marinade. :)

Is there anyone who could bring a small 8" frying pan? I have only large cast iron pans here which won't fit on the second burner which it turns out I'll need afterall.

Please let me know if you can bring this and what time for sure you can be there. Thanks!

I just seared the chicken in prep for the potluck and it smells soooo good in here! If you're considering whether to come down, do it! The carmelization looks stunning with the honey/soy marinade! Chemistry is fun if you can eat it!

We played Ballardopoly, ate til we burst and just generally had a grand time! Thanks to all who came out! We simply could not have had better weather. I was surprised how crowded it was already for 4:30 on a Thursday. The fire pits were taken already, which means we will have to sneak in another time and have ourselves a bonfire.
