I passed by this area a couple times over the (hot!) weekend and it was turned off both times, with lots of disappointed kids hanging around. Anyone know what's up?

It sounds like it was broken last Friday. The water would turn on (at the correct designated time) but only stayed on for ~30 seconds. It did this a couple of times.

Secret war is cause. You little people not understand. New World Order Superpowers and Alien race fight battle for Earth under sea. Russian Delta Class sub launch big assault on weekend, send most Aliens off planet, but damage municipal water pressure.

Hours are supposed to be 11 to 8.
Came by with my 4 year old son at 11:45 on Saturday morning and it wasn't on. Someone else took my son there at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and it had just turned off. Not awesome on one of the hottest days of the year.

This is a great issue to call up the City about and complain -- squeaky wheel and all that. 206-684-CITY (2489) is the general number.
BTW the Locks are one of the 6 rotating scenes of the city they've got on the main page now.

Nothing makes a walk to the library more fun than being rushed by someone’s unattended, sopping wet “little angels.” I say shut off the water and leave it off.

Their is a leash law.
Interesting statistic, Seattle is second to last for kids per ca-pita, in the entire country. Last is San Fransisco. Color me shocked.
If you see a wet little angel, I'd suggest you call, like, the little wet angel catchers, and get them fucking relocated. Now.

Meanwhile in the middle of February during a brutal windy rainstorm, the thing is spraying full-force...

The fountain? Or your cat?

I was going to bring my kid down but decided not to because I thought it would be really crowded, glad I didn't.
Gackpoid- Might I suggest crossing the street? Just pay attention, it would be a terrible tragedy if you got hit by a bus.

Seriously, Gackpoid, you and Briar Rose are cybertwins. It's startling sometimes.
If you walk within 20 feet of a spray park you are assuming the risk that a wet, running child may cross your path. I am not one to let my kid run wild, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to let him run around at the spray park. 'Cause he would be exhibiting appropriate behavior to match the time and the place. He does it in a restaurant and he knows he will be exiting the restaurant pronto.

Who's Briar Rose?

Gackpoid - Wasn't it you who wrote this glowing tribute to Briar Rose two
ears ago. I actually was so moved by your defense of her that I remembered reading it."There has really been nothing said in this thread to make me believe that Briar is in any way demonstrating a superiority complex. It actually seems more like the rest of the folks on this board have decided to automatically hate her no matter what she says. I think that if Briar announced that she wants to have us all over for dinner and a movie, you’d all say that she’s just being arrogant and wants us all to be jealous of what a good cook she is and what good taste in entertainment she has."

Back to topic. Mondman's suggestion is excellent. Every time one of us sees it's not spraying between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. (until Labor Day) call. I think that spray park is one of the most kid friendly art pieces in Seattle (heck, I've been known to walk through it a time or two).

Cate posting something that I allegedly said two years ago? Why are you so obsessed with me, Cate? That’s a little disturbing, actually. And to think that this person lives in the same neighborhood as me! That makes me feel really unsafe.

Not obsessed, just blessed with an excellent memory.

Don't blame Gackpoid for her bitter tirade. It isn't her fault. The other day I spotted her making an attempt at a clean and dry entrance to the library. But I had already armed my posse of urchins with water balloons, and she didn't stand a chance. It wasn't a pretty sight. They left her soaked and blubbering in the gutter and I could hear her moaning over and over again "the horror... the horror..." I gave each of them kids a quarter.
