I know this is a long shot but i am working with a woman who has two lovely cats that she has become more and more allergic to. They are not even her cats. They are her kids cats and they have moved out and lost interest. Well just another lesson regarding getting pets for kids when the pets will live longer than the kids will live at home.

Anyway, I must say, for someone who doesn't even particularly like cats she is taking very good care of them. Buys new toys, good food etc but feels terrible that, even though they are having their physical needs met, they are living in her basement and not getting the love they deserve. She tries but immediately starts to sneeze etc.

To make sure they are going to a good home there is a $60.00 donation to the Seattle animal shelter required.

Anyone know anyone who wants to give these sweeties a chance? If so I can get you set up with her to look at them get pictures etc.

*L* Now LIA, that I wouldn't doubt. After all she can turn on the radio & change stations. I had a moment of thinking getting her a playmate - but like with dogs, she is also scared of big cats. She can be so "mighty" and then so "timid" - makes me wonder what happened to her in the home she came from. All the animals there seemed like well behaved - but there was 5 or 6 small dogs and 2 or 3 adult cats - who owner said "rough housed" the kittens.
Probably if I get a playmate for HRH will get one her age and hopefully same size - petite!

    How is that so?
Or is it that folks with money to burn make good cat owners, and others don't?

are living in her basement and not getting the love they deserve

sounds like they would be better off at SAS

In her defense, at least she is keeping them warm, etc and has realized it's not a good situation for the cats, i.e., the loving part. Not sure why the $60.00 donation is required. That could turn some off.

It would turn me off. If you put a price on any domesticated pet, you lose the right to determine its best placement.

"Free to a good home" gives you some personal responsibility and rights to follow up.

[edit] for one of my many apostrophe errors...

People, they are called bunchers, make money (more people than you think) by interviewing to adopt free cats and dogs. They are very good at what they do, often bringing their children with them in order to look like the "perfect family". They don't look like you would think. They sell them to dog fighting rings for bait or labs for experiments.

I could go on and on with individual stories but you get my drift.

    Please read this link
    http://www.pet-abuse.com/pages/animal_adoption/free_pets.php

They are cons and their acting skills are good. I personally heard a man at a party brag about how he convinced a kid giving his guinea pig away that it was going to a good home when in reality he owned a large snake.

Requiring a donation like this up front gives a person the option of dropping the donation requirement if someone they know wants to adopt or if they get to know the person with a home visit etc etc but it weeds out the people who want the pet for the wrong reasons.

In answer to the question regarding the cats. I met them today. They are 12 year old brothers and have been together all of their lives. Very bonded.

    The family is full of musicians thus the names;

Basie is named after Count Basie the jazz guy. He is a black short hair with extra toes. Very affectionate and has a kind of big round head. Very sweet. I could pick him right up and he started purring.

Mozart is named after Bach ;). He looks like a large Siamese. He can be shy but if you be a bit patient he comes and talks to you. Didn't take but a couple of minutes before he let me pet him and started to purr.

Please pass on the info if you know of anyone that would be a good home.

Thanks for the clarification, LIA. Afraid these guys are a little too old to introduce into my house with Pickles. I do hope some kind soul does take these brothers.

Just bumping this up. Hoping it catches someone's eye. I just spoke to the woman and asked again if she would be willing to give them to the shelter. She said no because they want to know who they go to. I think mostly they feel guilty and giving animals to the shelter has such bad connotations.
