Somebody is carrying a baby, wondering wtfacebook happened to their stroller...
Booo you onder
So, I must be wrong?
Oh, my bad, artsy one.
honest question, do you really think it was a better idea to take the stroller and post on this forum, that a very small percentage of Ballard even knows exists, or a better idea to leave it there because the owner may retrace their steps?
maybe she put up flyers as well?
doing that, combined with posting here, would be better than leaving it there for afro-prez-dude to cart his drugs around like they were a precious baby.
or some young meth-head taking it for a joy ride in the skate bowl.
I also have to ask how long you waited to see if the owner came back
Was the stroller perhaps a dapper elderly Canadian out for his evening constitutional? I lose this guy occasionally & haven't checked in on him yet.
iPod, if he was dapper, well spoken, either Canadian or US, I would have kept him and said nothing. :):
The rest if you can go Facebook yourself
Uncalled for, I was asking an honest question in a civil manner
We stroller thieves can't be civil, fwiw.
yeah, without flyers I would say it's essentially theft.
another question
Was there a baby still in it?
Facebook is a trademark, I wouldn't even consider using it, it is a crooked little domain, and a sandbox for all kinds of big-time shitheads.
facebook is all ours, for the little people...
"facebook is all ours, for the little people..."
YAARRR! I'm gonna post that in engraved brass on a spreading chestnut tree for ALL to SEE! um, uh, that is if I can find one... hmm
Tonight I delivered the stroller to the owner. I sure learned something through my efforts to find the owner or get the stroller out of my home and car and into SPD hands. I talked to 3 different SPD offices and each one just pointed to another department. On Monday I was told that SPD officers would be in touch and put the stroller into their evidence room. Today I called and asked why no one contacted me. The answer was "Oh we do not do that ma'am. We don't come out to your house" I voiced my frustration and asked for advice and was told, " I will log this in as a [call to ignore]" I forget the exact words but basically I was told that nothing would be done.
This evening I got an email from the owner who had made a police report about a theft. A friend saw one of my flyers
So, what is the use of reporting a theft when no one can return the article to SPD who doesn't bother to scan theft reports when something is found!!!!
SA - a pat on the back for persevering and getting the stroller back to the owner. Just curious, how did they leave the stroller behind?
She didn't go into detail.
Of course, had you not taken it in the first place none of it would have happened.
Do you really think the police have the kind of resources to worry about a stroller?
Maybe you should call them next time someone ties up the washing machine in your building since they have loads of free time.
Pokerguy - why do you even care?
I know which yard to keep my kid away from kicking her soccerball in ;) The 4 to 5 foot car clarence makes a tempting net.
Glad you found the owner
I don't really care, but when someone posts something in a public forum they open themselves up to either praise or criticism. I think this was handled poorly from the start and looks like I was proven correct.
BTW the stroller cost is $750 and was brand new. Not exactly an incidental theft.
So were you arrested?
"I don't really care, but when someone posts something in a public forum they open themselves up to either praise or criticism."
That means it's open season on Pokinguy.
He was probably eyeballing it himself before you decided to roll it home and report it too the police SA. It's a good thing you came along and rescued it.
Yeah, I guess it would have been better for someone else to grab it and sell it. I guess he could easily shell out another $750 if it was taken from him. Great to be a BTO
Actually, I meant Poker was eyeballing it, not it's rightful owner. You did the right thing and the owner now has it back. If you left it even a few minutes more it is just as likely some skeezer would have just stolen it and pawned it. If it were my stroller I would be giving you the thanks you deserve, not the ration of BS you are getting here.
Sorry Corvus, I was being sarcastic for poker's comment, not yours. Thanks.
Kudos to you smartsy. And what that woman at SPD told you is total b.s. They come & pick up found property all the time. And being how expensive this stroller was, they should have. Glad the owner and you connected. Most people wouldn't have done anything. GOLD STAR
Smartsy - what exactly is your avatar? I still can't get it to open up. Anybody else having that experience?
gracie: are you on a slow connection? Her avatar works fine for me, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were close to a full sized photo, so perhaps your computer is having a rough time loading it?
I emailed a complaint with SPD North last night and got a call just now. What I was told by dispatch yesterday was very misleading. They do come out and pick property of value up. I got an apology and found out that they had dispatched officers on Monday who came by when I was not home. That day, I was specifically asked for a phone# where I could be reached so I expected a call, not for them to come to an address where I was not located. Talk about miscommunication. I hope my feedback to the call today helps point out some problems with dispatch.
Good on you Smartsy. The majority of people wouldn't have gone to so much trouble.
So someone stole the stroller, then just left it in the park? That is strange, I would assume someone stealing a stroller of that value would try to sell it. Or did they just need to use it temporarily? Strange indeed.
I second Pennygirl.
BN: It was SmartsyArtsy who "stole" the stroller, but with the intention of getting it to the rightful owner, as opposed to the next person who would steal it with the intention of selling it. If she had left it there, it was a toss up between whether the owner would come back in time or whether it would have been spirited away never to be seen again.
Why would an owner walk away from such an expensive stroller?
For $750.00 it should come with a GPS tracking device .
I "stole" nothing.
So did the owner tell you how it was stolen, Smartsy? I think it would be beneficial for other Ballard folks to know the situation, so they can be more aware.
steal (stl)
v. stole (stl), sto·len (stln), steal·ing, steals
v.tr.
1. To take (the property of another) without right or permission
Ninja, the story isn't mine to tell.
If we use that logic Poker it means that every lost dog that is picked up by good citizens is in fact stolen.
note true.
A dog is a creature that has the ability to move around on its own.
the stroller was obviously left somewhere by the owner, and when they returned it was gone. Big difference
But what do you do if the dog is just sitting there?!
See Poker - here is my thought about this. Why would anyone leave a $750 stroller unattended? You have a kid - when did you ever take the kid out of the stroller and just leave it in place?
People do things for strange reasons.
Do you think it more likely someone stole the stroller and decided to abandon it in the park? Seems odd to me.
I don't know. But I suppose the important thing is that the stroller has been reunited with the owner.
The strangest part for me is that someone would pay 750 bucks for a stroller to be honest with you :-)
Pennygirl, I've been thinking that Poker did indeed leave a stroller somewhere and got someone else pretty steamed at him and that's why this has been such a hot topic of anger for him.
Following his logic, why don't we leave a wallet full of money on the sidewalk and expect no one to pick it up.
I think it was an act of kindness on SA's part to keep the stroller safe and work so hard on getting it back to its owner.
That's it! Poker left the spendy stroller unattended!
I never left a stroller anywhere, I just don't like people who steal stuff.
Calm down Poker! If Smartsy stole the stroller why did she try to find the owner? Doesn't that defeat the object?!!
I'm sure she didn't steal it on purpose, but the fact of the matter is she not only inconvenienced the owner, but also wasted police resources when she should have just left it where it was.
But we don't know the whole story Poker. We don't know how long it was there. If Smartsy hadn't picked it up someone else would have. They probably wouldn't have gone to the trouble of finding the owner.
maybe, maybe not.
I need more details.
I like BBQ.
I think it was great that smartsy put up flyers to re-unite this stroller & mom.
I was going to be looking for a woman pushing hand-painted tiles down to the Ballard Sunday Market in a fancy stroller, but all is good in the 'hood.
In Pokinguy's version, Smartsy 'stole' the stroller just because she had so much extra time on her hands that she felt she needed to devote an afternoon to calling the police to report it and / or see if a report had been made, make and print flyers, and post here about it, and see to it that the stroller was returned. Through his accusations, Pokinguy implies that Smartsy is some kind of do-gooder-busy-body who must have a rich spouse who pays all her bills and therefore frees her up to basically waste everybody's precious time (specially the police) and Pokinguy had decided he is the protector of everybody's precious time. How noble.
In any rational and intelligent person's mind (yes Pokinguy the implication is intended so you can infer all you want) an obviously expensive stroller left unattended might very well have been stolen and / or then deserted. Smartsy's actions are nothing more than that of a concerned neighbor and even if you are the sort to belittle her attempts at being helpful (clearly you are), your adamant posting proves your numerous shortcomings and does nothing to harm Smartsy.
We don't know the whole story, indeed. The stroller owners POV would be very helpful to our understanding of what happened.
This reminds me of when my friend's "lost" cat was "rescued". I was at his house, on 58th across from the old-school QFC/Safeway. The phone rings:
Friend: Hello?
Caller: Hi, I found your lost cat.
Friend: Really? I didn't know my cat was lost.
Caller: It looked lost, so I rescued it.
Friend: Where did you find her?
Caller: In the alley between QFC and Safeway.
Friend: Oh......that makes sense.....since that's right across the street from my house.
Caller: Well, anyway, do you want to come get your cat?
Friend: I guess so, where are you?
Caller: Downtown, near Pioneer Square.
Friend: Don't suppose you could have called me from Ballard, before you drove home with my cat? [before cell phones]
Caller: Do you want your cat or not?
Friend: Yes.....[heavy sigh]
+ 1 to Smartsy vs - 1 to a pawn shop
Game over and SA did the right thing.. To bad people are unappreciative today.. Most people in this day and age wouldn't bother for these reasons. As a single parent I would beyond thankful... fwiw
For $750.00 did it have Corinthian leather ?
For $750 the damn thing probably should be motorized.
BH is right - leave Smartsy alone.
