While listening to Stephanie Miller this morning I heard that AM1090 - KPTK is going to a sports format. And KPOJ switched to a sports format this morning. KPOJ is owned by Clear Channel.

I don't think Seattle needs another sports station on the dial. It does need voices like Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann and Ring of Fire radio with Mike Papantonio, Sam Seder and Robert F. Kennedy JR.

Today, during Hartmann's show on KPOJ, a Portland caller mentioned the format change, suggesting it might be a politically oriented move by Clear Channel.

Hartmann said, "I don't see any evidence that this is a political game being played" by Clear Channel. But Hartmann's guest, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, expressed concern that radio is dominated by "extreme right-wing" hosts. "We have got to figure out a way," Sanders said, to give radio listeners alternatives to "Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity." He said, "That's a major, major issue."

Hartmann said that "KPOJ is going away," and added that the ratings had been up.

But, who's going to cover the Sonics? Pro hockey?

Bottom line, liberal 1090 can't even cut the mustard in this market.

They should get a bail-out, maybe a 20% tax on all successful programs.

It is 'Forward' thinking, but I'm all for it. /sarcasm.

    [edit]

I'm going to edit my post for anyone who's paying attention. If you are not making a dime for your boss, your boss will fire you. A job is not welfare, it's not required of you. We've gone through great pains to fabricate a hammock for you.

Of course, if you choose a hammock, don't get used to it. It will cost more jobs to sustain it, and it will get crowded soon. Maybe you should do something of value while it's an option.

I should preface my edit by saying, value isn't what it used to be. Just google the term if you doubt me.

    -end rant-

Que the usual 'I don't understand a word of your post' liberal elites.

Owners are always changing formats. Heck, even KVI, after 15 years of conservative talk radio, changed to "rock oldies" last year. Who knows...maybe they just wanted to pull the plug on conservative talk radio for the last year before the presidential election. However, Fisher Communications recently changed KVI back to conservative talk radio, so things are always changing...

When I was a kid I always wanted the rock posters they had on the wall at WKRP. Mindys father also had some nice posters in his record shop.

Every time I drive or fly to Cincinnati, the closer I get to the city the more prominent the theme of that show is in my mind. It never fails!

Back to our regularly scheduled program!

This little morsel pertains to KPOJ in Portland which ran the same Liberal line up as KPTK. Coming on the heels of the election one could surmise that Clear Channel wants to snuff out dissenting voices. Or yeah, it could be just the same old radio dial switcheroo. Won't it be great when John Carlson is the liberal voice on the radio?

On November 16, 2006, Clear Channel announced plans to go private, being bought out by two private-equity firms, Thomas H. Lee Partners and Bain Capital Partners for $18.7 billion, which is just under a 10 percent premium above its closing price of $35.36 a share on November 16 (the deal values Clear Channel at $37.60 per share).

The deal was finalized in 2008. Today, Bain Capital is still one of the primary owners of Clear Channel.

One of the subsidiaries of Clear Channel is Premiere Radio Networks.

Premiere Radio Networks distributes a whole host of conservative talk radio shows. Everyone in the conservative world knows names such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck. Clear Channel also controls some other conservative talk radio hosts (such as Michael Savage and Mark Levin) that are not part of the Premiere Radio family.

I first read that as three loins. On such gloomy Mondays, my mind is nearer the gutter than it should be. Sorry, Pennygirl!

Cougar Bob - I was truly saddened when I heard this on the SM Show this morning. I wonder if having to compete with two NPR stations and KIRO was too much. Plus being on AM. I guess I will be renewing my subscription to Sirius so that I can listen to Stephanie on the way into work.

right on with the AM radio.

I tried to listen to this station a few times but had difficulty and gave up.

the broadcast was spotty to say the least. and who wants to press that extra button?

Little known fact about Rush Limbaugh, king of right-wing radio:

When his radio show was syndicated, it was negotiated in the deal that they would *give away the show to all secondary markets*.

Only in the major markets (big cities) did radio stations have to buy the show.

This was uncommon, to say the least. There was a unique barter deal, that swapped crappy advertising into the broadcast in exchange for the usual fee.

Most radio shows charge in *all* markets to carry the broadcast, and end up having to compete with all the others vying for the same slot; *except Limbaugh*.

This means he was heavily present all over the US AM market in the mid to small towns by default, since it was free programming, and buyers of his show didn't have to pay for it.

In other words, Limbaugh's success has been artificially propped up from the beginning of his syndication by somebody putting in a lot of $$$ to cover the lost revenue from this kind of deal, but it looks from the outside as if he was an astounding success. Few people know this detail.

    "Free" market, indeed.

Nobody else cares to comment on brilliant marketing, but I will.

    Brilliant marketing.

Too bad Rush had to teach liberal imbeciles how to properly perform 'redistribution'.
