FYI a friend of mine told me that she had seen a Snowy Owl on the roof of a house around 70th and 34th NW today, 11/1812, and the folks there said it had been around all day. So the owls are back! There was one around the library last year in December.

I hope he comes to my backyard. My neighbor's bird feeder attracts LOTS of rats.

I would love to see one of these birds.
when they came around last winter, I went looking for them in Discovery Pk & Golden Gardens. then I read about how they don't like forested areas, but prefer grassy pastures and shorelines.
they roost on rooftops quite frequently, too (as witnessed locally).they are diurnal so will be active during the daytime. although I'll bet today they're all trying to keep dry somewhere!

GI? They are trying to keep dry? Is it raining in Ballard? Sunny and pleasant here downtown! (snort)
I had to ride through a pretty deep flooded road this AM where Delridge breaks off to the entrance ramp to the lower West Seattle Bridge. It was more than knee deep. Some poor city worker was out there at 5:40 gamely trying to open up the clogged drain with a shovel. His calf height Wellies appeared to be somewhat less than effective. As the cars drove by me they were throwing off wakes that were actually difficult to pedal through. I never thought, of all the things I could have difficulty with when bicycling in Seattle, that waves would be one of them.
May the snowy owls be warm and dry!!!

Glad you made it, D.
But no worries, soon we'll have a nifty little tunnel here to take care of any surface water ;-)
Well, as soon as WASDOT gets scuba certified, lol.

Hey birdwatchers!
Saw a snowy owl in a large fir tree today 11/25/12 at 34th & 74th. East side of 34th. One block down from Sunset Hill Park. Has been sitting roosting for over a couple of hours now.

thanks for the heads-up rob3rt!
I took my dog for a walk and checked out the owl for awhile. it fluttered it's wings a few times like it would take flight, but just turned towards the rising moon.
if I had a drone, I could've gotten some great photos!

I work out at the Lummi reservation just north of Bellingham. We have 3 or four out there. They are gorgeous. I was worried to see them out in the day. I did not know that was normal.

I've only ever seen them out at nighttime.
Saw some last year in Ballard at night.
... Just looked it up, are active day and at night

A snowy owl was on the roof of Crown HIll Center today - 92nd and 14th - being tormented by a murder of crows. We chased the crows off and the owl flew off to what we hope is a more peaceful daytime roost.

Doubtful, C.
We need to reinstate a bounty on crows, imo.
*not that I await a bounty*
[edit] [deleted] sigh...
Seeing an owl in your yard is priceless.

Now the crows will be going on about those damn humans ganging up on them in their quorum tonight! :)
It's what crows do.
