Out there is someone who jimmied the lock on my car, saw (for once!) there was nothing to steal AND had a club, so they saw fit to break my windshield. This is the third time my car has been broken in to. Was locked, clubbed, all compartments open, parked under a streetlight.

    I am angry.

Any suggestions on preventing this? I feel parasitized by these thieves.

    that really sucks, bio.
sounds like third time is NOT a charm.

I don't know what else you can do. any way it could be parked off-street?

I personally leave my doors unlocked w/ the club on. it's been ransacked a few times, but never damaged to gain entry.

So sorry Bio - that is truly sucky - tend to agree with GI that there's not much one can do beyond putting it out of sight...

I remember year ago when I was visiting Manhatten and people would have a sign on there window saying stereo already stolen. I wonder if a sign stating no valuables to steal might deter the thieves.

Or sign - "you've already broken in three times. There's nothing in car"

An old friend of mine kept a sign in the back window saying "If you see this car being driven after dark it has been stolen". That was also in NY.

Sorry about what happened Bio. Like GI said, it does seem that leaving the car unlocked with the club on is the answer.

Thanks all. I think they smashed the windshield because they found nothing. I don't drive it much these days. A friend is going to let me park it North of here where there are fancier neighborhoods. At least it makes it less likely the same thugs will find it.

I really appreciate the sympathy. It really does help one feel better.

Wow. They punished you for their stupidity of breaking into a car that CLEARLY had nothing to steal. Not a very smart thief - the better ones use a flashlight to look first.

Unfortunately, these thieves are so stupid that a sign may not help. They may assume you are hiding something and disguising it via a sign. Probably the work of advanced druggies. Pissed off that they have to go rob another car in order to score. It's your fault for not providing them something to pawn, you know.

What if you rolled down a window and taped a plastic bag over it? That's sort of the international symbol for "everything here has already been raped."

    My condolences, bio. Terribly frustrating.

Ha! You made me LOL. Thanks for that. Reading about people's flooded basements has given me some perspective. I do live in the richest country in the world, and no one will be bombing my home. I am blessed more than I remember to think of.

Yes in NYC the international "no radio" sign was then followed by the open glove compartment, then the "no nothing here" sign. My last few years there I had a 505 Puegeot with door locks that were impregnable but they were jammed up so frequently by ahole's that my mechanic gave me a quantity discount.

Get a dummy, recline the drivers seat, position dummy in past out posture - put a tarp over the dummy with only the hair sticking out - pea soup poured on tarp = No break ins and much confusion and fear.

Sorry to hear that bio...nothing I hate more than thieving bastards! :-(

Not sure how much you'll have to pay for yourself, but if you need to save money on the window replacement, I've purchased them from salvage yards before, then just had to pay for the labor to install it.

Sorry to hear this news. Where did it happen? Was the crime reported to the SPD?
