Thanks BuffaloHawk. I left a phone message for them. Meanwhile my neighbor who works at Mapleleaf Ace Hardware mentioned they have a program their store is participating in with Lights For Life http://www.lightsforlifeinc.com/ that takes in non-working strands.
He'll take them in on Friday. I don't know if other Ace locations are participating.
