Word is that there is a really bad strain of it around, too. I have a Corgi breeder friend who will not let anyone into her house for the first 6 weeks when she has pups.

Parvovirus is really nasty. It kills quickly and in an ugly way. When I worked at a vet hospital, one of the vets saw a puppy with Parvo and the poor thing was dead within the hour. Everything near that dog had to be thoroughly cleaned, and couldn't be used for the rest of the day. The vet that saw him couldn't see any more patients that day. Horrible disease.
