Hi Meghan, I do appreciate the info on happenings around the hood (I know you can hear the "but") but is there anyway to get them earlier?

I would have loved to go to the writers event but by the time I read about it it was too late.

It seems like many things you talk about the evening before so if a person is not online till the next evening it's over with.

    Thanks!

Thank you racer..... one thing I love about this forum is when I have a question there is always someone who knows and is willing to answer.

So... uh... What is an RSS feed? I get that a feed makes new posts from the page you click it on come to your email but I don't know if an RSS feed is different than that and will it make it get to my email sooner than it hits the homepage of myballard?

It's "push" instead of "pull" technology. In otherwords, you'd be notified whenever a new story is posted, instead of having to log on to the front page.

And it doesn't have to go to your email. I have all my RSS feeds right on my browser as auto-updating drop down menus. Quite useful.

Thank you guys. the thing is i think I did mean sooner, or more soon :)
If a feed sends stuff to my email when it's posted, then it wouldn't help because I don't have a smart phone so I would still only get it when I am on my computer.
I was hoping she would find out about and report stuff sooner. I mean some stuff is actually the day of. I do like to occasionally make plans a bit ahead of time.
Thank you for all the info on feeds.
This forum is such a wealth of info

I've always assumed that it's up to event organizers to contact the website for a notice about their event and that those last minute heads up are because it was just recently brought to Meghan's attention. There are so many community happenings that I can't imagine one person spending a bunch of time trying to stay on top of them so I say give her a break.

Or read the Ballard News Tribune, they are a "real" newspaper, and have an events calendar.

They had an article about the writer's event a week before it happened.

It is weird that the people running this site don't ever post on the forum.

    that is weird Ernie.

for awhile, I thought they might concoct characters to ask quasi-legitimate neighborhood questions just to get the engine churning.

I'd guess they read it, or at least did at one time (since many of the stories originate from this source).

I will say that Meghan Walker is a good journalist name. I can envision her signing off from some war-torn nation.

mc, speaking as someone who has emailed info about a number of upcoming events to the MyBallard tips email address, in my cases at least it wasn't last-minute emailing that resulted in the late or non-existent announcements on the MyBallard site.

SA -Didn't think about it. I guess the multitudes of threads asking the swedes questions put me in mind to use the same venue to ask a question of Meghan.

7 -You're right. I would have to know how she gets the information. I was inquiring if it was possible.

In addition to the BNT, I have also found Komo's ballard page to be a much better source for local news than Myballard.

Well, I scoffed when Komo announced their neighborhood forums because this one was so active and kinda had the market cornered. But I certainly don't see the article about Ballard Station's sign on the home page here, or on BNT's site. One could argue these two sources don't want to cast Ballard in a bad light, but that's not really honest reporting. You can argue whether it's good or bad reporting, but it is interesting that it is not being discussed here in Ballard.

Having other good sources for information while this one starts to falter bodes ill for continued success of MyBallard. I could be wrong, but I suspect Ballard may be propping up some of the other neighborhood forums by sheer number of people who are signed up. Eventually when most of those become inactive users, they won't be able to charge as much for ads or sell ads at all, though it depends if the advertisers are savvy enough to ask how many of the users are active (logged on in the last couple of months).

The Ballard Station Public House on Market Street offended a number of people over the weekend when the bar set out a sandwich board reading, "We have more specials than a retarded playground."

On Sunday, a Ballard Station employee responded, "Yeah, what about it?" when asked if they or another employee were responsible for the sign.

Seriously, makes me feel ill to read.

Further more, these are all handpicked liberals at the station, which was painfully obvious over two years ago, when I was last there. I'm not saying it's special anywhere in Seattle, but ffs, you are supposed to serve everyone equally in business.

I can't wait for their tent to fold. It's a location deserving some respect.

Their owner did go to facebook (from Nevada) that night angry about the sign change. "I just found out what happened today on our A board. I am very offended and feel sorry for the person that would write such a thing." I would hope that when the owner comes back the bartender will be fired. If not I wont be going there again. Not to say what the owner said on fb was any kind of apology, he may not have known at that point that it was a bartender. I would like to think something more will be said about it.

that story on KOMO says it was a 'regular' customer who has since been banned.

I can see the staff walking around oblivious to what they were projecting.

(not that I'd go there anyway if that's the sort of regular they attract).

Really !!!! The employee acknowledged and brushed off the question as if there was nothing wrong about it. They should have been appalled and removed the sign immediately. It sounds as if the clientele and employees both have issues.

Look Hawk, if you had ever been to this bar you would know how hard life is for their dimwit bartenders and not be shocked at this. I think you should go there have a few beers, and they have more than a few on tap, and get a sense of how challenged they are.

maybe I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but this:
"On Sunday, a Ballard Station employee responded, "Yeah, what about it?" when asked if they or another employee were responsible for the sign."

could easily be attributed to cluelessness. if someone asked him who wrote the sign but he didn't know what was written on it, that would be a likely response.

typical media taking things out of context to get people riled up!

People on their facebook are saying they talked to the bartender who did it and he said "I like to find humor in life." If true, the guy needs to be fired asap. That being said, the owner is out of town. Funnily enough though the owner did delete their facebook post from earlier today about celebrating the countdown til 502 and 74 being legal.

The bartenders I feel think they are great there, but service can be bad. Ballard Ave Pub had way better service. Also the people that tend to frequent are not my kind of people. Last time I was in there this guy went on trying to pick a fight with me for stepping in to have him stop hitting on my fiance. They have good beer on tap and soccer on tv, but outside that, there is nothing special or really worth going for.

Spoke too soon. From their Facebook:

We have taken the time to thoroughly investigate the incident that happened Sunday. We are very saddened to say that it has been determined that an employee did write on the sign. We took action immediately and suspended the employee while the investigation occurred. When it was determined he was responsible for the sign he was fired. We apologize to the community of Ballard and everyone who was effected. This sign does not represent the beliefs or culture of the Ballard Station Public House. Thank you for your patience while we took the time to investigate.

There are some who would say being obese with a 5 lb block of cheese isn't a choice. Am not so sure about the park bit, that might not be a choice either. Was there an outhouse lurking in the background?!

I am actually pretty dismayed at how social media affects business and business actions. I actually would have loved for the business owner to say they talked to the party in question, they understand and this type of thing won't happen again, and life goes on. Peoples businesses are being run by public outcry and I'm not so sure that's a good thing.
