Has anyone seen this movie and would you recommend it? Going to take myself out for birthday on Friday & want to see a GOOD movie. If not Abrham, any suggestions for a GOOD movie?

Daniel Day Lewis might be a little heavy for your birthday...Daniel Craig on the other hand might be perfect. :-)

I have not heard anyone complain about the latest Bond film Skyfall. Might be a bit more fun on your birthday. I haven't seen either (and both have had great reviews) but I'm dying to watch Skyfall and can wait for video for Lincoln.

rudy, allow me to be your first to complain about skyfall. i was entertained by the movie, but i thought there were a couple of big plot holes. javier bardem's villain is a good character but it seemed like the writers got lazy at the end and had his actions be out of character.

Daniel Craig a little easier on the eyes compared Daniel Day Lewis, for sure. But I'm not a big fan of "Bond..James Bond" movies. Was hoping, if not Lincoln movie, something funny but looks like slim pickings out there. And just saw The Hobbit doesn't start until December :(
I was really hoping to go see a movie & not be stuck in the house watching "Housewives of wherever, Honey Boo-Boo crap type shows.

Anna Karenina was hardly humorous, but a really beautiful movie. If you haven't read the book (or seen another adaptation) you might want to review the cliff notes as it can be difficult to sort the characters. I read the synopsis on Wikipedia; it truly helped.

Anna Karenina is boring old story. For birthday you see Red Dawn. Is perfect film for party. You play minigolf with girl friends eat cake and see action movie showing incompetent North Koreans invade Pullman.

You don't seem quite like the "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer" type, Gracie :) It's apparently very popular here in Seattle, as I'm still far down the Library's waitlist for the book after a couple of months of waiting.

I can't believe no one has said this yet. The Life of Pi. One of my favorite books made into a powerful movie that is different from the book but holds true to its internal. And it has a tiger as a main character. You like cats, you'll love the tiger.

I also loved 'The Life of Pi' and really look forward to seeing the movie.

Cate, did you read 'Unbroken'? Parts of the story were kind of similar (bird landing on guy's head, etc.), but I did not care for that book.

Gracie, the whole "Honey-Boo-Boo" thing has my entire family in stitches! After watching a few episodes I can only reply... WOW! Another needy family goes off welfare at the expense of vast wasteland watchers! Amazing!
My son is not so awestruck, his five year old keeps asking him what a "biscuit" is...

Mondoman & Pokerguy - the movie Abraham Lincoln that I mentioned isn't the vampire slayer one. It's supposed to be about Abraham Lincoln himself.

Skyfall was (I thought) the worst of the three (Daniel Craig) 007 movies. No where near as good as the other 2.

I saw the Lincoln movie - the one showing now, with Daniel Day-Lewis, where no vampires are slain. I thought it was great. But it might not be birthday fare, depending on what you are looking for. It is weighty and the Civil War battlefields are not festive. Life of Pi might be a better celebration movie.

g - I heard the movie itself was pretty bad (apparently unlike the book), and you don't seem as though you'd have much patience for bad trendoid movies (you did say you weren't a fan of Housewives, or Boo; you also said you weren't a fan of Bond, but maybe that's a guy thing).

Love Bond movies and I think that Daniel Craig is great, just this last movie wasn't very good. Didn't totally suck, just not as good as the first 2

Mondoman - I have to confess I do watch some of the Housewives shows but most are annoying with all the fighting (which I'm sure is for the camera). But Honey Boo-Boo not so much. When I said didn't want to be watching that, meant just doing something fun on my b-day & not watching TV. Sorry for misspeaking.

This might make "Skyfall" interesting to watch.

"Skyfall" has become the latest victim of eagle-eyed film fans, who have spotted 24 bloopers in the new Bond blockbuster.

So, here's a 30 second review on Skyfall... Thumbs up, hit on many nods to "classic" Bond films and had a great villain as well as an animal-related unconventional death (classic Bond!). I still think that Casino Royale is the best of the recent 3 Bonds. This one lacked some of the heart-pounding suspense I was expecting.

Not a waste to see it though. :)

Thanks for your take on this. Did you catch any bloopers? Might wait to see that one on video.
Right now trying to decide Abraham Lincoln or Silver Linings Playbook. Later going to check to see which one is playing at Thornton Creek. Like that theater alot because lots of parkingm seats are comfortable & close by restaurants if want to get something to eat afterwards. Do love the Majestic but the parking is so bad in Ballard these days.

Is Vanguy still around? Haven't seen his van by the library.
I've decided to see Silver Linings Playbook - if I can stop this damn coughing. Going on 4 weeks & have tried everything to suppress. At work have had to put people on hold because of coughing jag. Wish could have humidifer at work or a hot toddy!

Gracie, I also find the Housewives shows occasionally entertaining (they pass the time at the gym), albeit trashy.

GI, you didn't like "Unbroken," huh? I wasn't blown away by it either. It's an amazing story, but the way the book was written, it didn't really grab me.

And yes, VanGuy, if you mean Afroman, still has his pigsty of a van parked in the block by the library.

The only reason I initially thought that is because a cop told me Afroman regularly reads this forum.

And how do you know it's not him? "Because it's not" isn't evidence.

A cop telling you that a certain person reads this forum doesn't automatically make them the spokesperson for van life. Why don't you go back and read Van Guy's posts? Or ask LIA. She actually talks to Afro.

penny's right. A-man is a real person with a real (trash-filled-dashboard) van. Vanguy was a troll personality and likely doesn't exist in real life.

Nor does Vanguy saying he isn't Afroman man necessarily mean it's true.

    * Shrugs *

I don't know if he is or isn't. Don't really care, either.

One thing is certain - Afroman does have a trash-filled-dashboard van.

Compass, I tend to agree with you on the Vanguy-Afroman. Some time back comments were made about him & he posted his take on it. And this weekend I did see that the van is still parked by the library.
