Well, it is best to give of yourself, and your gifts are limited, clearly, so I guess you don't have any option.

Gracie, while I respect the season, giving should be all year.

I was trying to post a website for fundraiser for family in Nicklesville - living in tents. They were featured on King 5. But when I post the link here it instead goes to my personal FB page.
The family's name is Fillmore. They are raising money for this family, gifts for the sons. A business in Ballard has donated a bunch of stuff. Pasedo Animal is involved in getting food for the dogs and cats that live there. Also need for harnesses/leads for the cats. I personally donated money & will go & buy pet food & give to a friend who is involved in this.
I just went into FB and did search under "Let's give the Fillmore family a great Christmas." It shows up. Just a few bucks would help this family. Can't imagine living in a tent in this weather while I'm in my warm home.
I agree Onederfullone should be all year but this time of year especially it is truly a time of giving.

I'd like to know what it would take to get the family out of a tent.

...and why it has not happened as yet.

Maybe a link would be helpful, I'm absolutely not on facebook.

Might as well tell me to go to hell, Gracie ;-)

    I'll look.

I'm already committed to several families displaced on Long Island.

Tomorrow will be a very good show, fwiw.

    Thanks Phoo.
And Oneder.. here is a quote I found regarding this family:

    I feel safe here"

For Diane Fillmore, a homeless mother of two teenage boys, Nickelsville offered a safe, accepting community. Her sons weren't allowed in family shelters, nor were the family's three cats.

"As a mother, I feel safe here until I can find a job and an apartment," she said.

But the life isn't ideal. Her older son dropped out of high school last year. Her younger son, who does his homework by flashlight in the winter, said he has trouble concentrating on school.

Really now..cats? Hospitable living conditions contingent on not one but..3 cats? Someone's priorities are really screwed up.
Dump the cats, dogs and parakeets, if need be, to get the best living conditions for you and those you care about. I cannot fathom how anyone is wringing their hands about finding a place to stay with such 'encumbrances'.
Family first, the rest are luxuries.

She also stated her sons were not allowed in family centers - for whatever reason. Maybe their age? Don't know.

    Unknowns.
One boy dropped out of High school..last year..old enough for emancipation?
The other still interested enough to read by flashlight?
High hopes for something nice to come to the family this season.

Thanks for positive thoughts for this family. I asked around & it is true that shelters won't take a certain age of children & especially if they are boys. I donated money & going to the store this weekend & buy dog & cat food. Pasado's Animal Rescue (or whatever their name is) is sponsoring Nickleville pets. Also raising money and presents for the people there.
All I can say is while we get into our warm bed, in our warm house with lights and TV, music, you name it - just think of those people in this weather just rying to make it through life.
