My fiancé just walked by an apartment building on fire and called it in to 911. Hoping silver can keep us updated.

And apparently she saw someone in all black clothing including face mask walk away from it (which she also reported in).

    Jeebus. Scary stuff.

I was on the way to piano lessons and just happened to see the fire jetting out of the apartment before the fire trucks came - called 911 and prayed, it was surreal coming on it and nothing happening outside the building. And then I heard the sirens.

We stopped at Safeway after the lessons, we did see a very skivvy guy in pitch black sunglasses and all black garb. I'm calling the non-emergency line and let them deal with this info if it is all relevant.

Sad. This is literally two doors south of house fire earlier this fall that took the life of an elderly gent.

What sad news. The Times article reports that a passerby raced up to the fire to try help. Brave person.

Very sad. I'm proud of the guy who went into the building, pulled the fire alarm and knocked on doors - I must have been there at the same time, but we were at first puzzled by the fire, then once we got our wits (about 15-30 secs), called 911. Running across the street and getting people out did not immediately occur to me and I'm not too proud about that. Fortunately the fire response was quick and I saw the fireman right when I was calling 911.

The fire to me seems suspicious - it was so incredibly large and so self contained in the one apartment. But I'm no expert.
