You know, I was actually happy with DSL speeds. I'm not really in a big rush

Now THAT might be worth doing. Comcast is NOT your friend. I would drop Comcast for everything except TV, and maybe not even that.

I like that he didn't choose (all) the obvious neighborhoods.

No GI. Why do you have to do that? It's getting old.

    what's getting old?

Ballard is an obvious neighborhood IMHO. He's picking some less trendy places and I give him kudos. I thought you were, too.

Sorry GI. Given the track record I assumed you were picking. Again.

Edit: Meaning You thought that I thought that you thought that it was good that Ballard didn't get it. Did you get that?!! Nor did I.

    no need to apologize twice.

    see, we can agree sometimes!

edit: I didn't get that. but I can readily admit that Ballard gets lots of hip bars, restaurants, etc. and doesn't deserve to be first in line for all the nifty stuff (as much as I'd like it :)

That's twice we have agreed GI. It could be a record. Let's put it down to Christmas spirit. Or the fact that it is a Thursday.

These folks did this about 8yrs ago got the ok from Seattle - then did not get a grant from the city and went out of business, They (the Gigabit Co.) think Seattle is an easy mark.

    To quote them
"Gigabit Squared isn’t merely an advisory group providing thought leadership "

Doesn't the city grant Comcast an exclusive license to operate in the city on the premise that they can only allow one company to dig up the streets to install new service? Isn't this is the reason Verizon can't install FIOS in the city?

I wonder what this does to that contract? I'm all for faster internet, but I'm more interested in leveling the competitive playing field. Maybe this will open the doors.

JJ, Verizon is out of the TV/ landline / Internet business here , they sold out to Frontier, Seattle requires a permit to use the poles and right of way , but it is not exclusive - presently there are 3 (maybe more) cable and many internet companies operating in the city. More competition will be good- but the city's infrastructure is so poor - it will cost a new build company a lot of money, with poor return, unless of course the taxpayers chip in, and that is what it looks like will happen (the areas outlined as the test areas are the most politically charged and socially visible)

By the way Gb^2 seems to not build or operate any delivery system, but are just an advisor on how / what to do (A Consultant)
