How to Open A Coconut Shell !!!

offlineMemberI'm sure there's a clever way to get into it, but my family always just used a hatchet. gets it done.

The tap (but not smash) with a hammer method seems to be the most popular.

offlineMemberBH - the way I do it is like this: On one end of the coconut you will notice 3 small dimples, take a large nail and hammer through two of them and then turn the coconut upside down over a bowl or measuring jug. After you get all the milk out you can take a saw and saw around the nut in the middle, if you don't want to saw all the way through you can just deep score it all the way around and then whack it with a hammer while holding it in your hand, it should separate into two halves. Then you can take a sharp knife and score the inside layer of flesh into bite size pieces and then pry them out. I love coconut meat and milk!

drill or punch a hole in it and drain the liquid (or add liquor). Then just crack it with a hammer. If you are outside, just throw it on the cement. Blunt force, just a hard hit
