Look at this place. Bums defecating on playgrounds, hostage situations, high speed chases, urban rest stop, idiots discharging firearms at Golden Gardens etc....

Why would anyone want to raise a family in that place. #lovethemidwest

Midwest? I thought you moved to Covington Kentucky to be with a better class of white trash, at least one your felt more at home with?

Seems not unusual for an urban area. When I lived in Columbus, Ohio there was plenty of crime and vagrants. I hardly think it's unique.

But Miss Julie in Cbus a black is not 3 times more likely to be stopped by the police for a non moving violation and shot in the back by a cop who no longer lives in the city, in Cinncy they are. So if you are white like pokerchip you get to live in a "sanitized" city and call it peaceful.

    1. how are those mountain/water views from Cincinnati?

    2. can you walk to a grocery store, library, elementary school, movie theater, etc. from your house or do you need a car for those things?

Late 1980's Short-North, High St. and OSU (around 4th/Summit) can hardly compare to Ballard.

He is gone and yet, inexplicably, his stench remains. It would appear he either did not go far enough or has not been gone long enough.

Poor little Chip! I really do feel sorry for him, but that feeling is dwarfed by the relief I feel knowing that my daughter will never have to share a class room with him.

Good on you Poker! You have made Ballard a better place to live and raise children!

Re 80s short north do you mean the attempts to bring life to it or the drugs and crime? If its the crime you mean, I would say Ballard does not compare.

I was violently mugged living in the Short North in the 2000s, so...I dunno. I'm not afraid of getting attacked in front of my own house here in Ballard, which is different than when I was living in urban Columbus. But I suppose everyone's experience is relative.

I've always felt far safer here. It's urban, there will be crime, but I'm nowhere near as fearful.

as someone who's driven across the state of Ohio over a hundred times, I've gotta say that of the 50 states, Ohio is probably one of the last five I would choose to live in.

it got to be so boring (the drive), that I'd tie a rope around the steering wheel, put a brick on the gas pedal, and go take a nap in the back seat.

I have a hunch that if the new town of the original poster has a community website, there will soon be a new poster insulting other posters, tearing down the city and its clueless people and wishing he didn't have to live in that hellhole. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

Ohio? At least there is civilization every few miles or so. How about Nebraska? Flat as a pancake and nothing to look at for hundreds of miles.

Minnesota hands down for me when I drove out to Seattle.I didn't go through the major cities and it was during February when I moved. All I saw was snow and fields and really not much from one side to the other side of the state. I couldn't even pick anything up on the radio.

"Poor little Chip! I really do feel sorry for him, but that feeling is dwarfed by the relief I feel knowing that my daughter will never have to share a class room with him."

People may talk bad about me around here, and sometimes deservedly so, I know a lot of you don't get me, but insulting someone child, that you have never met, shows that you posses a special kind of nasty streak I will never have. My son, as I am sure your daughter, is a beautiful innocent little boy. To make comments like that show what a disgusting creature you really are. Next time maybe you should think about your own daughter before saying things about someone elses child.

Also, lots of hypocrisy going on in this thread, good stuff.

I feel sorry for your son because he will have to work very hard to maintain his innocence and not allow himself to be turn into the same kind misogynistic, racist that you are. He has a tough road. As for you... there really isn't anything to get, but go ahead and flatter yourself.

Anybody notice Poker slams others, then whines when he gets slammed? The pattern's been consistent throughout his presence on the MB board.

He did show some thoughtfulness when going to check out Compass w/another MB member, but then seemed to revert back to usual patterns.

Stopgo, Poker is just a big a jerk as you or me. As with all of us, he has his own way of being a prick and a good neighbor all at the same time. He went well outside the lines a few times but that was his routine. I can see most people venting a bit that Poker is no loner here to drop words like c*nt but what I get most from your posts on this thread are you are sorry you won't have a big brother to kick your a*s anymore.

I think I'm secretly jealous of Poker. He's one of those people who consistently behaves in a jerky way but occasionally say something mildly nice and is liked because of it. It's setting the bar low then being rewarded as exceptional for subsequently showing that you can occasionally be average. I want to be that! In younger years I saw the girls flock to that type but could never pull it off.

Good point though about leaving people's kids alone - dirty pool attacking progeny to bruise the parent ...

    Don't be jealous of Pokerguy.
PokerGuy is actually PennyGirl's alter ego just as stoPGo is her alter id.

Notice the repetition of "P" then "G" in each avatar moniker. Yup, a dead give away.

As a matter of fact, if you go back and read, with your new found knowledge, every single post from every single MyBallard poster since the inception of this site, you will find a "P" and a "G" within most paragraphs of the vast majority of postings! Coincidence? I think not.
