I think this post deserves its own thread, just in case people didn't see it earlier...

"Sad news in the neighborhood....our dear BambooBoy passed away unexpectedly this last weekend. His witty comments and curiosity about life will be missed by everyone."

(Posted by Gardening_Angel in the "I'm bummed out" thread last night)

    RIP BambooBoy

Thank you pennygirl! I'll be sure to pass everyone's notes on the his friends and family. Martin's friends at work (Trident Seafoods) are planning a memorial bike ride on February 16th. I'll be sure to post more details in a few days. He was a very special fellow and will be missed by many.

I saw the sad post a few hours ago in the other thread, but I wasn't sure what to say. Thanks for starting one just for him, Pennygirl.

I loved his avatar, even though that kitty had been gone for awhile. Please add my condolences to those sent to his family, Gardening Angel. He seemed like a good fella.

I wondered if he worked at Trident. I have several friends that also work there. We probably have rubbed elbows at the Expo parties.

My condolences to his friends and family.

What a shock! Although I never met BB in person, I always enjoyed his comments. I remain hopeful that he was very much at peace with his life when he passed.

RIP Martin. I really enjoyed looking a while back at his website about fishing rods. A heart of gold and genuinely offered advice.

To his friends and family, I wish you peace.

    Penny,

    Thanks for doing this!

GA, like Vegan, I would love to know of anything they do for BBB.

With sadness, And with a feeling that if I had known him beyond this forum I would also have been very glad to have had him in my life and would be celebrating that as well!

Oh no – this is so sad. What a shock. He was a myballard member that I felt a kinship with thanks to our conversations about hummingbirds. He seemed like a kind soul. Rest in peace Bambooboy . I will miss you and think of you when I see my hummers buzzing happily (or battling fiercely) about the feeder.

I wonder if he ever found his post-Christmas lights to brighten the winter nights. This really is a sad thing. It is a good reminder to make every day count and to treat others - even people you don't know that you meet on the internet - with kindness.

Here is the info regarding the memorial ride for BambooBoy:

I was terribly saddened to hear about the death of our friend Martin. He was an avid cyclist so I am organizing a memorial ride in his honor. We will be doing his favorite route around Lake Sammamish on 02/16 starting from Log Boom Park in Kenmore at 10:00. The ride is open to anyone who wants to join and the first part of the ride is on the bike trail and completely out of traffic. The more experienced riders will do the entire loop (about 50 miles) but those inclined to ride a shorter amount will have the option of turning around to return to the park. We can meet at 9:30 to share some stories and memories of Martin and his dry sense of humor.

Here is the link to the park for directions: http://myparksandrecreation.com/ParksTrails/Details.aspx?pid=340

BambooBoy was a Hillbilly. He wasn't sure to begin with, but when he told me his address I informed him that yes, that qualified as a Hillbilly. He grew to love that status. We will miss him up in Hillbilly land.

This morning on my way to the bus, one of my resident hummers – a gorgeous studly male, was sitting on a low branch of a tree I go by, happily singing away. I stopped as I passed by to admire him - he was less than 2 feet from my face. He did a little display, stretching his wings and showing off his beautiful scarlet head in the morning light, then buzzed up to feed from my feeder. I think that Bambooboy – Martin – is ok :-)

    GA,

Thanks for posting the info about the memorial ride. Not sure I will be free then but will try. (my wife has some surgery scheduled on her eye the day prior and I don't know what the day after drill will be) Please let us know if the family mentions anything about donations to a charity in his honor as well!

Thank you very very much for posting this.

GA - I second Dave with thanks for posting the info. I probably will not make that ride but I will think of Martin as I ride around Ballard.

What sad, sad news. He fretted over his hummingbirds, missed his sunglasses-wearing kitty and I enjoyed reading his always entertaining posts here on the forum. In real life, I am sure could tell a good story.

He will be missed. Peace to his family and friends.

Wow, not sure how I missed the thread earlier, but thanks for starting it, PG. Please add my condolences to Martin's family and friends, Gardening Angel. From his avatar name to his postings here, Martin wasn't someone I could easily peg and predict his opinion. That's a good thing in my book.

Martin's family has posted an obituary for him:

    http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/seattletimes/obituary.aspx?n=martin-ross-jensen&pid=162997781#fbLoggedOut

I still can't believe he's gone. Whenever there was some seemingly random topic that would cross my mind, I knew I could count on him to have a whole witty dialog about it. I will never think of gravy or hummingbirds without thinking of him.
    RIP Martin....you are deeply loved.

    Gardening Angel,

Thanks for posting this. As I thought, I won't be able to make the bike ride for Martin this weekend, but if they are doing any kind of a memorial fund in his memory I would be more than happy to donate.

    Thanks again, so much!
