Some rat came and stole two bricks from my front yard patio today. They then scraped all around a side path flagstone as if to steal that too, but didn't. Things are either getting that bad out there or they were "casing" the house, or who can say? Just a heads up.

  3. I would let your neighbors know you have not hired landscapers or other workers, and get a camera up front and back. Hope all goes well.

Allison,Allison,Allison, my Grandfolks graduated Ballard high in the 1930's. I love it here! Was born and raised in Seattle, will take a lot to get me to move. Plus, I bought about 15 yrs ago, and now the home values are cruising in the right direction. I wanna stay and soak up all the equity I can!
I just don't like thieves, if they don't respect your property who knows what they could be capable of?

Ok, I get it that if you leave things outside, some miscreant will walk away with it. So I don't leave out garden tools etc. But landscaping bricks!? Flagstones? Really? I've heard of small shrubs and trees being dug up, but now rocks!? Sheesh.

If only dog poop had resell value...

Was it that northface wearing Ballard looking mom pretender with the capital knockers who broke into Sunset Hill David's place?

Junkies probably grabbed them for a smash and grab. I wonder if any cars where broken into.It sounded weird at first but that is the only thing I could think of.

It is very weird, it looks like they used a screwdriver to pry them up. I just can't figure it either. It is unsettling, if I ran into a stranger brandishing a screwdriver in my yard, I would be concerned for my personal safety. But I kid you not it did really happen.

I wouldn't waste my time with a camera.

as Edog alluded to, sunsethilldavid on this forum had a fairly major theft at his house and took some remarkably clear footage of the culprit with a surveillance camera.
yet the police still couldn't catch the thief (as I bet they rarely do with those all-to-common parcel thefts from front porches that are also caught on camera).

I doubt the police would put much stock into apprehending a paver purloiner.

Frayed, my grandmother graduated from BHS in '35. Her two brothers, one who went on to start Seattle Marine, followed shortly thereafter.

Surely I am worthy, though I was born over at Doctor's on First Hill.

That is weird - does sound opportunistic as others have said - to use for someehting nefarious - or they are very slowly making a new patio? Will have to keep eye on my walkway - geesh!

Frayed Not - Was this west of 24th near 80th? I saw someone on my street sort of ambling from one side to the other that day, someone I had not seen before, so I stopped and watched them until they were out of sight but they didn't actually do anything suspicious as far as I could see. One time I saw someone going up the street checking every car door to see if they could find an unlocked one and that's what I thought was going to happen but thankfully did not. Anyhow, that's really weird about the bricks. Maybe they have a really tiny patio.

oh, because your so-called 'establishment' is nothing short of extortion.

also, a bunch of homeless guys does't make me feel so safe.

I had a strange theft yesterday as well. Someone stole the bird bath from my front yard. It was a green glass bowl on top of a black wrought iron stand. Joke's on them though - the bowl has been cracked and hasn't held more than a quarter cup of water for months now. HA!!! Still creeps me out.

Between the two strange items in this thread it sounds like someone is remodeling there backyard.

yard/porch stuff getting stolen is incredibly commonplace in Southern California -- finds its way to Mexico usually. So maybe blame Canada?

We so need surveillance cameras on Aurora so I can watch the perp selling bricks on the corner:) You can't make this stuff up.

One - love the redistribution joke. Hee

Knot - sorry this happened. Not that your missing two bricks so much obviously but it would creep me out too. This kind of stuff just makes me feel unsafe overall every time I hear about it.
