enatai70, I make practically everything from soap to face cream to deodorant to laundry detergent and so on (thanks to Zenith's--that place is a godsend) and yet, the one household item I haven't nailed down is our dishwasher detergent. I've done that exact recipe you linked to, along with countless others and just had to come to terms that it's either my water or the recipes just doesn't work well for us. The dishes would come out foggy or unclean, so that's just one of those things I had to cave in on and buy from the grocery store. I just buy the eco-friendly stuff with no toxins (or so they claim) instead and that seems to do the trick.
Also, to the person who said they never have time to do these things... The biggest time suckage is just getting the products. But one trip to Zenith's and you're set. Mixing the stuff takes minutes. I'm a pretty busy person myself, but if I make my hippie things in bulk (in the winter is great, since I tend to stay closer to home when it's rainy and cold) then I'm not constantly making things every week or month. But even my deodorant, which I don't do in bulk, literally takes 3 minutes to make--and it's sooooo easy to make. You might freak from the sticker price when you leave Zenith's, but considering I spent $200 there about 4 years ago and have made almost every single household item (even my toothpaste) and still have about 2 years worth of supplies left, I say that's a deal.
The only thing I haven't found at Zenith's that I've needed was Zinc Oxide powder (they do carry Titanium Oxide though), so that I buy online via Amazon.
Sorry for the long-winded response. I just love spreading the homemade hippie love!
