I was really confused at first but now that you edited it I understand. I'm
glad she is feeling better. Can you cut her nails so she can't scratch you? The first time is scary but after that it is pretty easy. Any pet store will have nail trimmers for cats.

Gracie. Get her spayed asap. She may have been desperate to squeeze out of the pet door (I'm assuming it was to the outside) because she is in heat. The Seattle Animal Shelter will spay females when they reach a solid two pounds around 12 weeks. PAWS probably uses similar guidelines, though I am not positive.

Kitten season has started. Pickles is not too young and she's not too small to get pregnant. I'm not kidding. One of my first foster kitty cases was a small kitty that weighed 4 lbs 8 oz after she gave birth to four kittens in mid-April.

  7. If she's in heat , don't spay her.

I'm sorry about pickles being in a pickle - man I can't believe I just said that but I guess someone had to.
    Hope she's feeling better soon.
There are different schools of thought on the age of spaying. I know that a German Shepherd rescue person told me that if you spay them too soon they don't get the ruff around their neck when they mature because it throws the natural growth cycle of hormones off. Who knows. Anyway, as long as your Juliet doesn't have Romeo climbing up the balcony there won't be any little ones. Or an unfortunate misunderstanding involving medication and sharp objects.

The nails. I had vet do when they sedated her for xrays. I t ried. & tried and gave up. Forr whatever reason. She hates hind feet touched and she went thru what I think was very short heat period. That's why she was scheduled for surgery week she got hurt. Told vet think she knew & snuck out to find lover for a fling. She is doing better every day so think end of next week. Again apologies for typos. Wish decent instruction came with this tablet.

Oh no! We got Pickles and the neighbors got the pie! My mom loved kitties so much she would feed 'the strays' with tuna and pretty sure you know those kitties became part of our household. I myself only get my kitties from shelters - so Pickles is safe from me!

Gracie - sorry to hear Miss Pickles got herself in a jam - that must have been scary for you both! The nails thing just takes practice - I used to have the vet do it (was new to cats) but now the cats will let me play manicure with not too much fuss. And a good scratching post/surface helps too. I'm sure little Miss will come thru just fine - she's got a good human on her hands ;o)

I'm always helping friends and relatives trim their kitty's claws...and I just use regular human nail clippers. If you're not used to doing it yourself, then it's probably best to have someone else do it first, and just watch how to do it before trying it yourself.

Some cats are easier to handle than others, so for the more difficult ones, I'll have the cat's owner help me out. We grab a towel and wrap them up like a hot dog...but not too tight, though...just enough to restrict those flailing claws! Then we just take out one paw at a time. Hopefully, we can get the job done in one sitting, but if the cat's especially freaked out during the process, you might have to finish trimming the claws another time. :-)

P.S. Sending cuddles to Miss Pickles....she's such a cute little thing! >^..^<

Thanks Chickster - I'm pretty partial to her cuteness too! She does have a scratching post and seems to be using it more since her nails were trimmed.
When she initially was injured she went to use the litter box, tried to squat & fell over sideways like a drunk. I couldn't help but feel bad but was also chuckling. She figured out a way to do it on her own. Now she is fine.

    She definitely does

Chick - With your experience with kitty grooming you'll appreciate this story I think-

I rescued 3 identical tiny kittens and they were so covered with fleas that I would flea comb them twice a day every day and I got hundreds off of them.
I'd never seen anything like it.

Anyway, they would put up with it for the most part without a fuss and I have rarely had an animal best me but boy one of the little guys decided one night that he had better things to do and would have none of it.

I was getting ready to do his belly and had him on his back in my lap, each of his front paws in each of my hands with his little arms spread and I was singing to him "I'm the boss of you, I'm the boss of you" to entertain my mom who was living with me at the time.

All of the sudden he decided to do this Exorcist thing and he flipped his bottom completely around to face down with his arms, chest and face still facing upward! I was so grossed out that I let go with an “Aaaaaa gross! You win!! Ewwwe how did you do that?!” and off he ran to play with his siblings. I never lived it down with my mom

She'd roll her eyes and say

"I'm the boss of you indeed. Weighed under 2 pounds and he got the better of you"

They were the cutest things and we found them lovely homes once they were old enough.

You know what I love about MyBallard? I can scroll through all of the subjects and just read the ones I'm interested in. Thanks for posting about Pickles - love hearing animal stories.

Here's one for you - I was walking my dog and she made a big poop. (that is not the interesting part of the story) and I'd forgotten my bags.

What to do, what to do?

I finally saw someone had their TV on so hopefully was up and I knocked. I heard this ferocious bark and being inordinately afraid of dog fights I yelled "I have a dog out here" they said "I have a dog in here what do you need" kind of annoyed "I'm sorry but do you have a bag I could have to pick up my dogs poop?"

Turns out they were really friendly and they had a sweet pit bull that wanted to say hi. I had a really nice exchange with a stranger. Got some lovely connection with another human for me and attention for my dog and was able to give him and his dog some connection and attention.

One of the nicest things about animals is all the connection they cause between those that like animal stories.

LIA - great story and you are point on about opening threads about stories you like.
Compass - Pickles' leg is totally fine now. But the poor thing is in heat and has been for a few days. Of course it is night time and very early morning hours that she does the MEOOOOOWWWWW thing. Can't wait until she is done, which should be soon and then surgery time to fix that issue!!! (I shouldn't say it outloud - twice the surgery has been cancelled - first her leg & she went into heat this past Friday (surgery was going to be Saturday)

Thanks. Well the "latest update" she is still in heat(6th day) & I'm worried she still be on Saturday - which is the day surgery scheduled for. Her first heat only lasted three days. But think it might be slowing down as she didn't keep me awake all night with the MEOOOWWW. One thing in heat she is super sweet, affectionate (woke me up this morning licking my face) but when not in heat she is a prankster, jumping, "attacking" me - miss that right now.
Nora - been meaning to ask you and might be a stupid question - the cat in your avatar is that a photoshop or was the cat really tilting head that way. Love the cat.

What is even more disgusting is that when I googled the town they even made a movie about it. I can't believe someone would want to watch a movie about that subject and it even won awards.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoo_%28film%29

The film's public debut was at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2007, where it was one of 16 winners out of 856 candidates. Following Sundance, it was selected as one of the top five American films to be presented at the prestigious Directors Fortnight sidebar at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

Biotron - sorry - ain't going to happen. Tell you what - you see anything remotely involving Pickles, don't read. That way you can't get "disgusted". Like it or not Pickles will show up here again, I'm sure.
And abouat being "disgusted" -- as someone once said, "It's a joke, son. It's a joke." And as Larry the Cable Guy would say "that's funny, I don't care who you are."

Cate - her heat period lasted until Friday evening - much longer than I anticipated. I thought it would be much shorter. Called the vet & at 8:00 A.M. Thursday she is going in. I'm getting off work early that day & will be with her Friday-Sunday. I know she will be okay - just won't be too happy with me never getting to experience Romeow!
Can sure tell she was out of heat this weekend - she'd gone from this loving little thing to ATTACK, chase the piece of paper, run from one room to the other, get up on haunches and act like Ninja kitty. Love it!
I'll let you know how she weathered it when we get back home Thursday evening.
