Buffalo,
I try really hard to keep my work and my home life separate. It is enough that I do a 10 and 12 hour day many days without having to deal with it at home as well. Once I hit the bicycle work is the last thing I want to think about until I roll back in the next day. That is just me though. I know many find the telecommute option very satisfying and/or helpful. As far as adult beverages go? Well...need I say more? <grin>
Hope all is well with you and the little one!!

i have always wished I could have done that but thought the lack of human contact would get boring. And work in the work place or work at home - beverages any old time!

I was talking to a friend last night and he works out of his house. I asked him if it gets to him being in the house all day without the adult stimulation once in awhile. I was thinking a cafe with wifi for telecommuters might be a good idea for a break every now and then. You set up a working atmosphere with a little color and funk for the mind to work creatively. I would call it the "You are not alone" cafe (hehe) & maybe give it an alien theme. It was just something I was tossing around in my head last night.

Here are some earlier posts of MyBallard folks who were experiencing just what you posted in the OP. They were even thinking of getting a common workspace locally so they could work together. Kind of a cool idea...idk if it ever happened though.

I can't telecommute sadly. I would now and then if I could. Adult beverage? Yes, I have a tap in my spare bedroom closet. I find when I am home and working after work, a beer makes me work 10 times better. 3 beers not so much, but 1 or 2 while I work goes a long way to letting me relax and figure out problems a lot easier.

I was thinking this topic had come up before - thanks for finding the threads Rudy. I honestly can't imagine having to go back to the daily office grind ;o) I think now, as I thought back on one of those, it's a personality thing - you are either someone comfortable with the "silence" of working alone or you are not - so I'd be unlikely to be customer at such a joint, BH, but I'm sure there are those who would like the "break".

BH, my husband worked from home for the last ten years or so, and only recently shifted into two days a week at an office. I think is safe to say he LOVES being out of the house, and selfishly we could really benefit from reclaiming his office as a bedroom. So I know he thinks about ideas like this. Since we still have two kids who aren't in school full time, he doesn't want to drive all the way to his office on the days he needs to pick them up, etc. So a work space for telecommuters in the Ballard area would def appeal... (ideally less crowded, etc than Starbucks or what-have-you, since in theory he could work there but it feels too chaotic...) And beer is alway a plus.

I would go stark raving mad if confined to my house for the work day. I own two businesses and work a half-day a week for another business. So I'm not often at home. I suppose it might be good to work one day from home, so I get clear, uninterrupted, sequential time to work on projects. Beer would be a bad idea for me, but since I'm from hillbilly country, maybe a box of not too expensive (I know, redundant) wine in the frig would work. ;)

I used to work from home in the 80s. I didn't get bored because the work was compelling but, even though I'm an introvert, I found that I missed having at least a minimal amount of human contact. (Pity the mail carrier who rang my doorbell! He or she was good for a 20 minute conversation.) I also always wanted to get away from the house on weekends.
Now that working from home is more common, I have heard of people living in the same neighborhood who work from home, meeting for lunch every day at a nearby eatery to get some of that face-to-face social contact.

I work on my computer from various coffee shops and home all week long. It does get lonely being home all the time, so I change up my coffee shop office. And sometimes I need the peace and quiet of being home.

My husband and I both work from home and are looking for more ways to get more social interaction. We're also looking into shared work space possibilities. We love our house, but oh boy do we get cabin fever!
