I really enjoyed "Sightless in Seattle" by local author Claire Anderson. It's a memoir of her experience of major life change -- She lost her eyesight in middle-age. She describes the challenges and adaptations with a sense of humor. My favorite part is the journal of 48 days at Guide Dog school, where she is given a yellow labrador named DaVida. They undergo intense training to work as a team. There is a moving chapter about Claire and DaVida's visits to inmates at state prison. An inspiring read.
The book is for sale at Secret Garden and Amazon.
