Considering that the cost of a rabbit spay can be over $300, this is an amazing service!

Our puppy will get spayed at the Seattle Animal Shelter in July. The vet and breeder want her to be over a year old before sterilization. Otherwise, we'd definitely have the pup spayed this month at the shelter.

Other rescue organizations do it too, depending on the species. It's not that much to just pay for it...if you truly can't that's one thing but if you can afford to have a pet, just pay for it. That allows people who can't afford it to do so.

Gordy, why the one year delay advice? Just curious.

The delay is because now it is felt that waiting until a dog's growth plates are closed or near closure for the sterilization will mean less risk of future muscle/joint injuries.

There's no such thing as free, someone is paying for it by providing services and materials. If someone can pay for it (and obviously is willing) why not do so? There are a lot of people truly in need and if it's the difference between affording to spay/neuter their pet and not, then of course they should use it. If it's a matter of someone who can pay for it but is trying to get something for nothing, maybe they just took an appointment spot from someone who needed it.

I haven't pepper sprayed yet, want to be a test subject?

About the spaying or the spraying? I have no problem with animal testing as long as the test subject agrees to it :)
