We have a ton of great prizes from Bark, Camelion, Ballard Market, All the Best Petcare, Romanza, Ballard Home Comforts, Trader Joe's, Ahimisa Dog Training, The "R Shoppe" Elizabeth Desiree (pet artist) and more! We'll have a photographer taking pictures of your pooch as well.

All dogs must be from Ballard, must be on leashes, and owner must pick up any...accidents. It's FREE and open to all breeds, mutts, sizes and ages of dogs. We'll have lots of categories; best smile, prettiest eyes, longest tail, best behaved, naughtiest, youngest, oldest, biggest puppy, curliest fur, cutest white dog, cutest big black dog, softest, etc. Come on down one the 23rd and meet your neighbors and their dogs!

    See you there,
    Wuff Da!

The generousity of our neigborhood businesses has been OUTSTANDING, especially in these difficult economic times. I urge all pet owners (and Ballardites!) to support these businesses.

Yay - cutest white dog category! We'll have to do some extra furminating to get him all fluffed up and ready to go. Now, if there's a "Most Clothes Ripped During Puppyhood" category we might take this thing by storm!

Angelatini! Didn't you wnat to be a judge too???

Yes, SAmmy there is QUITE THE CUTIE. He goes missing, I THINK you'll know where to look. Angelatini! Dognapping is a crime!! Penny, we're having a best smile category and I'm thinking your collie is a shoe-in. What a happy dog!

The only tiny glitch is we are still looking for a PA system- Parks and Rec. MAY be able to get us one, and I have a call into a friend in Ballard who works for a microphone company. But if anyone has any ideas, let me know.

Frayed knot- cuties! We will have a TON of categories; my intent is that everyone goes home with something!
Some of our categories include (but not limited to)
    Oldest
    Youngest
    Biggest
    Smallest
    Cutest white dog
    Cuteste big black dog.
    Best dressed.
    Prettiest eyes
    Curliest tail
    Longest tail
    Best smile
    Best behaved
    Funniest trick
    Fluffiest
    Softest
    Longest weiner dog
    Mort unusual
    Miss Congeniality
    Mr. Congeniality
    Cutest herding dog
    Cutest retreiver
    Cutest Heinz 57 mix
    Best matching pair
    Most wiry coat
    Wiggliest pug
    Best Lassie-look-alike
    Best Rin-Tin-Tin look-alike

You get the picture. Of course, ALL dogs are the BEST dogs. (My German Shelpherd (sadly, gone to that Happy Hunting Ground) was the BEST Shepherd, ever! Lived to 18; beat that!)

This event is FREE, but limited to dogs that live in Ballard; all dogs must be on leashes. and owners must pick up any poo. ( I will have extra bags.) Aggressive dogs should probably have muzzles; but the park is really big enough that dog-aggressive dogs can stay on the perimeter.

    See you there!

We're very excited and can't wait! Jules, I'll have to meet you for coffee with my German Shepherd (we live around the corner from you) - he'd recognize you as a great dog owner immediately!!! (Wow, does this sound like I'm sucking up to a JUDGE? Ha!)

msballard, most dogs recognize me as a "soft touch." They're thinking;"Now there's a lady who would buy a dog a steak. Maybe a pork chop? Maybe you have a cookie in your pocket? 7-11 is open- you have money? You could buy a dog a Slim-Jim!" And they would be right.

i realy look forward to seeing all the dogs of Ballard! Msballard30, I'd love to meet your Shepherd.

    Doug11;
Having a permit means I can exclude ANYONE from the park. That means the vagrants, the panhandlers, the scary couple with their scary pitbull, and you...if you start prostelizing about the Chamber at this event. OK?

It's ONLY for BALLARD dogs, so unless you live in the 98117 or 98117 zip codes, no can do. Otherwise you are welcome, as is your dog...but Sammy ths Springer may beat out your springer!

So how will you know which dog is from Ballard? Will there be a dog whisperer there asking the dogs where they really live? Not sure that part will work out for you.

Registration forms. I am an old hand at event planning; I used to run a huge whitewater kayaking/rafing event. A friendly neighborhood dog event is a piece of cake!

Doug11, you and your springer are weloome to come- as long as you keep the BG Trail prostelizing out of it. This is supposed to be a fun, family event; not a soapbox.
BTW, I have NEVER seen another springer around...I dunno why, they are great dogs.

Of course, I think all dogs are great dogs!I will try to keep all the panhandlers out of the park for this event- seriously, no one needs it. AS a matter of fact, Doug11, I could in fact use a little help with Security; ie: trespassing the scary couple and their pit bull, and any stray vagrants drinking in the park and/or bothering contestanats. I want this event to be comfortable for families with children...well, all of us, actually.

*Sigh* Not something to encourage, I know, but the strong puppies may take it...

(MsBallard - our little guys should definitely meet! And by little, I mean fatty monsters :) Ours is over 60 lbs at 5 1/2 months)

I think there already is Biggest Puggy category. Also we may have to have "most in need of obedience class." Sammy The Springer pulls like he's trying out for the Iditerod himself. (I've seen a team of Standard Poodles pull a sled- a team of Spaniels might be hilarious.)

Well, my Malamute puppy, who we call Nanuq but my neighbors affectionately refer to as Meat (as in Meathead, since he's a giant but is controlled entirely by his puppy-brain) will win hands down in such categories as Fatty Monster (65 pounds @ 5 months old - thanks, Sammy!), Least Likely to Figure How to EVER Jump INTO the Car, Most Mule-Like (thanks to his dead-dog routine when I try to drag his stubborn self back into the house and he just doesn't feel like it), Best Cat Food Thief (my felines are going to starve to death), Noisest Boy-Farter (no explanation needed - although "silent, but deadly" is not one of his many adorable traits), and of course Cutest, which many of you may THINK you have all wrapped up, but you don't. So just deal with it. :-)

"I think SOMEONE might just win "Most In Need of Obedience Class..."
We can always adjust categories if we to need increase the Obedience-Challenged Group, right?

I once knew a black dog, who, while out on a walk with his unsuspecting grand-owners, dashed beneath a barbed-wire fence, trailing his leash behind him. He was ecstatic to find himself in a cow pasture after a very heavy rain (with an overflowing water trough) where there happened to be a nice, deep "pond". Within seconds, his nose was beneath the "pond" water, shooting brown rooster tails behind him on either side, that would surely be the envy of any hydroplane driver. As a water dog, with more than a little bloodhound mixed in, he was in heaven. The cows calmly chewed, watched, and wondered, if, or when, their farmer might show up with his gun.

The black dog finally responded to "Come HERE...NOW!!!", before any cows were hurt, or any farmer appeared. Once home, there was much hosing-off, and many baths (including the humans) occurred. Plus, a load of liquid cow pasture-plastered jeans & t-shirts.

We felt fortunate that other than unexpected baths & laundry, we were limited to a only leash being sacrificed to the burning barrel.

jj looks good!!! Thanks! I have a wonderful dog story. We use to have a basset hound and as you know they are kind of slow. My husband and a friend took him for a walk on a county road next to our cabin. Tonto like to walk in the long grass in between the road and electric fence. He also like to mark his territory. Well he decided to mark the electric fence. He manage to touch it with his private part and he flew several feet in the air. His yelp could
be heard over the whole valley! After that incident when we would take him for a walk, he would glare at that side of the road and cross over to the other side. We decided to change his name to Sparky.
