No, perverts, I'm not talking about porn. I'm talking about trashy TV. My guilty pleasure is Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. It's all about petty, rich women and their bitchy catfights, and says a great deal about what's wrong with our society. Yet I love watching it. I enjoy seeing the clothes, the makeup, the houses, the swanky restaurants they eat at and their over-the-top lifestyles.

On the other hand, I feel like a little bit of my soul gets sucked away every time I watch it. The husband despises it and won't even stay in the room if it's on, so I don't watch it when he's around.

What trashy crap do you indulge in?

As I related in the Pastorius thread, my trashy crap is true crime shows. Investigative Discovery is always on whenever I'm at my father in law's house (we don't have cable/sat. thank God!)

On the treadmill I feel justified in watching the Mindy Project, New Girl, the New Normal, and Modern family. Especially if I do weights too. In public I watch Nature and documentaries.

Revenge. Just try not to get sucked in to that soap opera.

Bio, ha! The gym is one place I never feel guilty about watching crap. You have to pass the time somehow, right?

Yep. One time I laughed so hard at New Girl that I fell off the treadmill.

I nearly got sucked in to Tamar and Vincent. Don't ask me how, but the theme tune is so catchy I ended up watching it for hours one day.

    Just for the theme tune...

    That's hilarious, Bio!

Penny, what's Tamar and Vincent? That sounds more high-brow than Housewives. Is it a Brit show? Do you ever watch Gavin and Stacey?

CR: Have you recently seen some of the true crime show titles? "Deadly Women!" "Dates From Hell", "Stolen Voices, Buried Secrets", "Behind Mansion Walls" and my favorite title "Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry?" If these ain't trash, I'm a unicorn.

I tend to watch the more forensically driven shows though (at least that's my public answer...)

I've watched the true crime type ones if there's nothing else going on and I have control of the remote. Mr T has been known to be caught watching Springer or some heinously bad game show called Dog Eat Dog*.

I like RuPauls Drag Race. FWIW, there's a PNW performer in it right now and he is superb.

*the show has nothing to do with dogs and no dogs appear to be harmed. Or eaten.

Cheese, no, but those sound awesomely bad. What's that other one ... Wives with Knives? That sounds uber trashy too.

Springer!! I'll admit, I've watched that a few times years ago.

What's RuPauls Drag Race? That sounds fun.

One channel I can't stand is TLC. A writer (New Yorker?) called it The Leering Channel and that's a good description. It feels creepy and voyeuristic to watch shows about hoarders and people with bizarre addictions, people who are probably grappling with mental illness. That's not entertaining to me.

I don't watch TV. However, I don't say that in a sanctimonious way. I waste time with the DailyMail online just about every day. Hands down, it out-chav's anything mentioned in this thread so far.

Oh heck no CR! Tamar and Vincent is a reality show about Toni Braxton's annoying little sister and Vincent Herbert (GaGa's manager/producer) - throwaway but kind of excellent!

Here is the wonderfully crappy but brilliant theme tune!

It will be in your head for days!

RuPauls drag race is on Logo but you can watch it on Logo after the show airs, if you don't get Logo. It is up to 14 drag queens and each week one is let go. They do challenges, etc. and there is some wonderful talent there. Our local guy has done theater up here and works at Julia's. WELL worth watching and he is still in it :) Google Jinkx Monsoon if you want to indulge in a little PNW love and support him the actor.

Watched a few episodes of a "real housewives of ..." show once, remember one of the characters was the ex- wife of a pro athlete and one was an ex- madam, hey, it's all just entertainment...
may watch this new put- on concerning "the Bachelor" motif, the one with "real" actors, ought to be just as hilarious as the original...
Mrs OG watches the Bachelor religiously and I go into another room...

How coincidental is this? Watched Judge Judy tonight and heard her admonish a real mouthy lady with the phrase "Hey! This is not Springer!"

oldguybc - you watch the "Judge Judy" show, that explains the fact that you started such an odd topic (rant) on Kurt Cobain.

Funny, I've thought that the fact that people watch shows like this says a great deal about what's wrong with our society.

Shondaa Rhimes. I don't have a T.V. but on Friday nights I catch up via HULU with all the Shonda Rhimes soap operas.

  23. I am hooked on Revenge. I also tune into tThe Voice-- got started last season bc of a friend's friend's niece who was on the show. I always watch David Letterman to end the night-- a great NYC connection.

Ernie, I'm really not that person, or I wouldn't get why RHOBH is a guilty pleasure. I know it's awful. But it's fun to watch.

Tonight the mister was out and I decided to watch something non-trashy. I watched part of an award-winning web series called Often Awesome, and it was incredible. It's about a young hipster couple who fall in love, then he's diagnosed with ALS and an amazing community calling itself the Awesome Army rallies around to raise money to help pay for his treatment. He and his girlfriend get married as he's deteriorating from the disease and while it is certainly sad, it's also very uplifting, an incredible story of love, courage and living in the moment. Highly recommend.

But sadly lacking in the trashy department. This is quality stuff.
